So what does turning debt into equity mean?

Thu Feb 11, 2016 5:18 pm

So it has been stated we are around £174 million in debt

If tan turns all his debt into equity then we are debt free

But what exactly does that mean?

I'm just a little confused really about what difference equity makes to debt

It means Tan is changing what is owed to him into club money. Now that Langston are paid off we only owe money to Vincent Tan and he is now repaying his orginal promise of a debt free Cardiff City

So what does that mean exactly?

Tan was owed £174 million, when that is equity we no longer owe him £174 million

So what does he gain from doing this?

Debt is money owed to a creditor which has to be repaid at some time in the future.

Equity is shares in the company which never have to be repaid by the club , so turning debt into equity means the club no longer have to pay Vincent Tan that money back .

By the way the £174m is not accurate (see my comment in another thread this afternoon).

No offence Rydo but you confirming what Keith has said is a bit like the hospital porter confirming what the neuro surgeon has said...

No offence to Rydo, hospital porters or neuro surgeons were intended by my previous post
