Phil Gartside: Bolton chairman dies aged 63 after illness
Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside has died at the age of 63 after a serious illness.
Gartside had been in the role for 16 years, but handed over the club's recent takeover negotiations to football finance executive Trevor Birch after his health deteriorated.
"Phil has been a personal friend for over 30 years. This is a very sad day," said vice-chairman Brett Warburton.
"We send our deepest condolences to all Phil's family."

Not disrespecting the dead.
One must remember that Mr Gartside was one of those who wanted to close off the PL to new entrants for his and his own club's interests. Hugely arrogant at the time.
Wonder if he had that reconciliation with Sam Allardyce. Must have been hurting him badly at the end.
