CARDIFF CITY, CHAMPIONSHIP, FEATURED, READING, TRANSFERS, WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Adam Le Fondre has admitted that he would ‘love’ to return to Reading for a second spell. Speaking to Get Reading after the 0-0 where both sides met at the Madejski Stadium, ‘Alfie’ says that he thoroughly enjoyed his first spell with the club.

The former fans’ favourite only left the Royals in 2014 in the first place because an unsettled tax bill needed to be paid off. He moved to Cardiff City but failed to settle in Wales, leading to a loan move to Bolton last season and is now on loan at Molineux.

Saturday’s trip to Berkshire was the first time Le Fondre returned to the club since he left and conceded it was an emotional moment for him. He went on to say that he would never rule out returning to a club he holds in the highest regard,

“I would love it (to return to Reading one day).

“I had three magnificent years there that I consider the most successful years of my career.

“So never say never – in football you never know what the future holds.”

He isn’t exactly regular under Kenny Jackett at this moment in time either. It is only really because of injuries why he has enjoyed more game-time in recent times, plus the sale of Benik Afobe to AFC Bournemouth has played a part. He is expected to return to Cardiff at the end of his loan spell, where his contract is up, leaving his future in the air. Perhaps a return to Reading under former boss Brian McDermott is very much his number one choice.

So much for his I want to return north for the sake of my family

He will go anywhere for a quick buck..never been able to become a first team regular for the last 5 or 6 years at whatever club he has been at.

Not sure any club will take a chance on him anymore..that's why we couldn't offload him in the summer

Yeah....how far north is Reading? We've had much better strikers since....Watt and, judging by his potential, Lawrence.
He's been as ineffective for Wolves as he was for us.

With all the chopping and changing together with a lack of success, he will be lucky to find another championship club. This looks like desperation to me.

Knew that want to go north was bullshit.

Popular forward faces an uncertain future at Cardiff City, putting rival clubs on red alert

DAM Le Fondre has been linked with a shock move back to Reading FC at the end of the season, writes Courtney Friday.

Royals' former number 9 was sold to Cardiff City for around £2.5m at the end of the 2013/2014 season, but failed to make his mark in the Welsh capital.

He was subsequently loaned to Bolton Wanderers FC and then Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, but he has failed to secure a starting role at Molineux.

Reports this week suggest the Stockport-born forward could be heading back to Reading FC in the summer transfer window, when his contract is set to expire with the Bluebirds.

It has been reported that Cardiff have told the 29-year-old striker he can look for a new club.

Le Fondre, known to Royals' fans as Alfie, scored 41 goals in 110 appearances for Reading, including a memorable late double against Premier League high-flyers Chelsea.

Meanwhile, players like Hal Robson-Kanu could potentially leave the Madejski Stadium on a free transfer at the end of this campaign, potentially freeing up funds to re-sign Le Fondre.

Royals right-back Chris Gunter signed a new two-year contract last week, but Robson-Kanu is yet to be offered a deal even though his current one expires in June.
It is thought Swansea City could now attempt to sign the Wales international on a free transfer.

Centre-back Anton Ferdinand is in an identical position to Robson-Kanu and will be out of contract this summer.

However, the Chronicle understands the club will sit down with both players in the coming weeks for contract talks.

Reading booked an FA Cup quarter final home tie against Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace by beating West Brom 3-1 at Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
