' What is it with Sammy Ameobi? '
By Steve Tucker
Before Sammy ameobi arrived on loan at Cardiff last summer, many hoped he would not prove another Wilfried Zaha who had under-whelmed in the welsh capital on his loan spell. Sadly it looks like the Newcastle-man is going to have to be written off as a poor addition to the Bluebirds’ campaign.
He started again here and despite a few flashes, a few decent balls, there is just not enough of a contribution from him, not enough energy and, simply, not enough class to make up for the lack of energy and commitment to the case.

I was watching him numerous times yesterday...we would be attacking down the left in the second half and he was about 30 yards behind the play on the right hand side....on at least 3 occasions he made absolutely no attempt at all to get into the box.
His effort and commitment at times is laughable and quite frankly an insult to the fans who pay his wages.
He optimises everything that is wrong with certain modern footballers. the guy is a disgrace

City have a knack of not getting the best out of a player...look how many have flopped here only to shine elsewhere..
Sun Feb 07, 2016 9:19 am
Told my mate yesterday ameobi had the ball out on the wing, I was shouting get up the wing, obviously he did not hear me

as he just ambled about , he could have done a lot of damage up the wing and got some crosses in, I cannot for the life of me see how people voted him man of the match, must have very low expectations of players

Works both ways. Bothroyd and Koumas were brilliant here after flopping elsewhere. Chopra too.

I think he's like quite a few modern day footballers. Enjoys the fame, lifestyle and money, but does'nt actually believe in working for it.

Knows he ain't going to offer red a contract here,so pimply his heart ain't in it,just going through the motions

And the other way.....the list goes on and on......we seem unable to motivate....I did think watt was a potential success but there we go..

I blame the fans myself. They always get on the backs of flair players. Zaha a perfect example. He's ripping the Prem up with fans who believe in him. Yes he may lose the ball now and again but that comes with the territory of being an attacking skilful player. Down here he tries a trick and it doesn't come off and fans were straight on his back.

Is it possible that his Asthma problems really are causing him more of a hindrance than first thought.
It would certainly explain his lack of energy and when you have a lack of energy, and fatigue, you do make wrong (or slow) decisions.
Personally I dont think it is a lack of skill. I think the guy needs some serious medical help as a problem like this, unless resolved, could stop him being a professional footballer.
It might have been a gamble that we, as a club, shouldnt have taken - but I dont think you can blame the player for that.

No....you have to blame city for taking a stupid gamble......probably a £20 k a week gamble

Think it was a tactical decision by CCFC not to buy Watt. He was alright but would you honestly say he was amazing for us? He was just better than what we had at the time.

If the asthma problem is thAt bad he shouldn't be a professional footballer. It's a cop out if you ask me. And it come from Slade who talks a load of shit.

Hes just one of 100s of players who are on mega bucks and treat a saturday as a kick about no passion no pride no commitment f**k modern football !!

I didn't use the word amazing but I think he may have been able to find the net.....lets hope Lawrence and zohore can improve this problem...

Yes, Ameobi has been disappointing. He came here with a premiership pedigree and has shown, given a good run of games that he us not good enough for premier or indeed top half championship clubs. Just one of those things and I don't think we can blame Slade, or the club for his failure.
If No one had played yesterday we would have scored double for figures.Hopefully he will be back for Charlton.

This thread is rather ironic considering he's leading the MOTM poll from yesterday.
He also set up 2 goals last week
Sun Feb 07, 2016 10:46 am
Thought he played well yesterday, he and Whitts were pretty good, Ralls and O'Keefe were ok but difficult for them both in the circumstance of the pitch and getting out muscled.
Sun Feb 07, 2016 10:56 am
He had a good game v Huddersfield, did OK yesterday but previously has only shown flashes of his so called premier ship class.
He has been a costly mistake and we could have done better for far less money.

I have a couple of points.
Its hardly his fault that he has shown raw skill and ability that persuaded his rich but mega greedy parent club to give him such a lucrative contract. This isn't some kid who has shown season after season consistency and has downed tools like the Chelsea players, he has merely shown glimpses and is here to give him greater exposure to the rigours of professional football. Would he be any better on 3K a week ?
I doubt he came here to play as a wide midfielder in a 1980's 442, he hasn't the skill set. He came here to see if he can play centre forward, if that was the case his parent club could demand more for his services.
JET, kelvin etuhu, Kerrea Gilbert all "starlets" from big clubs who in truth were lower league at best. Is Sammy better than league 1 ?

I agree with this and commented to those I was sat with throughout the game
"He's lucky he didn't move, then. He might have had to make a tackle!" was one comment I made when he just watched a team mate being overwhelmed in the second half!
Like Zaha, there is certainly talent but he's wasting it hugely by lack of effort off the ball as well as on!

Exactly, might aswell have signed an injured player!... Oh wait we done that too with Saadi ha

Even though he has played decent these last two games I'm not impressed with him whatsoever.
Sun Feb 07, 2016 4:28 pm
We really missed Nooney. He would've destroyed their left back , who was really slow.

I think it was more of a Dave Jones factor that got the best out of them.

Zaha is playing for a club close to his heart.
When he was here he was having a Haha at our expense.
Thought Ameobi was quality on a poor surface yesterday.
Some would rather see a bit more hard working....like our friend Revell I guess?
