' SOLSKJAER SPEAKS OUT ON 'HIS TIME AT CARDIFF '

Solskjaer breaks off preparing Molde for last 16 European showdown with Sevilla to admit he shouldn't have said yes to Cardiff, revealing he had turned down Aston Villa

Saturday 6th Feb 2016

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he was not ready for the Cardiff City job but is refusing to blame Vincent Tan or any of the behind the scenes upheaval for his Premier League failure.

Solskjaer is currently on a warm weather training trip to Dubai, preparing his Norwegian side Molde for a looming last 16 Europa League showdown with holders Sevilla.

But he took time out to candidly admit he let down the Bluebirds after saying 'yes' to the manager's job, despite turning down Aston Villa because he felt the time for a move into the Premier League wasn't right.

Solskjaer was brought in by the Bluebirds amid a bust-up between Tan and fans' favourite Malky Mackay. After eight horror months his Bluebirds were first relegated, then slumped to 17th in the Championship with Solskjaer paying with his job.

In an interview with broadcasters TV2, Solskjaer reflected honestly upon his brief time in charge of Wales' capital city club by saying: "I was not ready for it. I did not do a good job.

"I had three years of success with Molde, winning the League twice and the Cup. I thought I was fully prepared, that I was ready for the Premier League.

"But it's a completely different world there. Everything is much bigger.

"Norway is a small environment. There are only three to four agents to deal with, just 15 other clubs and that's it!

"I obviously was not ready for the entire Premier League showcase at a brand new club that I was not familiar with."

Asked about the upheaval at the Bluebirds, which saw a public rift between Tan and Mackay which was subsequently to get even worse, Solskjaer said: "I'm not looking for excuses, just looking at myself and what I could have done better.

"I said no to Aston Villa because I was not ready. I said yes to Cardiff because I felt ready. But I was not."

Soslkjaer says the horror experience has turned him off a return to Premier League management in the near future.

"I'm not going back to the Premier League just at any cost. We we have moved home and are thriving," said Solskjaer.

"We are in no hurry just yet, although it may be that I feel ready again in a few years.

"But if I do go back there, it will mean I have had further success with Molde. So that will be good."

Forever the gent. I agree he wasn't suited here at all and the money he spent in our Championship return may have hampered our progress now.
But still, a good custodian

He didn't let us down. He did his best, but just wasn't ready, and found himself out of his depth. He was always good with us fans, always had time for us. Put it all down to experience. Wish him well for the future.

Definitely agree with this, he was spot on with his efforts with the fans, unfortunately our fans hated anyone who wasn't Malky or Pulis. It was a toxic atmosphere within the club at the time.

Useless !!!!! Never knew what he wanted to do and blew so much cash we'll (or vinny) will be paying for it for years.

There won't be a Fergie dynasty, he was a one off who got lucky, but exploited it to within an inch of its life.

Maybe failed with being trigger happy on transfers but to the teams we lost to in the early season, we lost to Wolves who finished just outside the play-offs on GD, Boro who got to a Play-Off final and look a strong contender for the title this season and Norwich who got to the play-off final and WON.

Always had a lot of respect for Ole. These quotes show just how honest he will be, and at times hard on himself.

He came in at a difficult time and no he didn't do a great job in the Premier League. He also spent a lot of money and the start we made in the Championship was terrible.

Having said that, I have always said that he wasn't given enough time. He had seven games in the Championship. Like I said, he did spend a lot of money and seven games is nowhere near enough for a team to gel.

I don't like how our club pinned all the blame on the money being spent on the manager, those above him need to authorise these transfers - or give him the power to authorise them. Either way, the club must take responsibility. A lot of managers would have done just the same had they been given the chance to spend that amount of money.

People will think my views are crazy, but it's my opinion.

I hope that Ole gets another job in the Premier League/Championship in the future and I hope he does well. Lucky enough to meet him a couple of times and he's as genuine as you'll get.

Ole, can never say the truth about his time at City as to get his money when he left, he signed a confidentiality contract.

I liked him as a person,player,but rubbish as a manager,very costly.

I don't agree with that. Surely if OGS felt that it was indeed any fault of Tan and the circumstances, he could quite easily say something along the lines of " I don't wish to discuss my time at Cardiff as I'm bound by a confidentiality agreement as part of my settlement".
Why, people on here, cannot take any-ones statements as facts, rather than choosing to want to blame Tan, is absolutely pathetic. People such as OGS and the solicitor (Nott) are being quoted, yet some refuse to believe it!

blah, blah, blah
No good making insinuations, without having anything to back it up
At least, the statements above have come from the horses mouth.
Why a confidentiality agreement for OGS? It's not the government you know, where he's bound by an official secrets act
Whats happened with Gabbidons? He was quite happy to blurt out embarrassing comments about Tan, no gagging order there

Ole called a press conferance when he left City and 5 South wales Reporters were invited, cancelled after his meeting with Tan, I spoke to 2 and they told me why and one is a very very highly respected reporter.

Gabbidon, had nothing really to say,his was more of a joke, even I laughed at his. Prob Tan did as well.

Fella, don't be fooled by your own ignorance on either of these ones! ;)

I too was a little too type-happy on certain aspects of both the OGS and Sam versus Tan situations until I was enlightened by a couple of VERY ITK people who may and/or may not frequent this Forum! ;)

The OGS situation was 100% covered by a 'confidentiality' agreement and the Langston situation has pretty accurately been explained on here by at least one person other than Forever Blue (who has, if you trawl back, stayed out of the Chris Nott situation like he said he has) and whose explanation is why you are unlikely to hear anything other than rumour, gossip and conjecture on here for the foreseeable future! ;)

Simple FACTS, fella. Simple FACTS! :ayatollah:

As you like to say all about opinions, someone disagrees with you and you tell them to stay off your posts  and call them arseholes. You get told all sorts of crap from all sorts of sources, yet you choose to believe bits of it and put it on here as fact. OGS has been quoted and takes the blame on himself. There will obviously some kind of confidentiality in place when any manager leaves a club, that why you never get any manager going into any detail about their time there, but for you to turn that into some king of conspiracy is naive and misguided.

I enjoy a good debate and other posters different opinions, but continual sarcasm, sorry not the way I am,you might like being like that.
If you read what I said the reporters who told me on this,I trust and there for I do believe it as the one reporter has never been wrong with his info and if I told you who,you would respect it.

There probably was a confidentiality clause (it sounds very Tan like) due to the ongoing spat with Malky McKay. However, it obviously didn’t cover the difference in ‘philosophy’ or the fact OGS has refreshingly admitted his own short comings.

Personally I think that is very honourable of him accepting responsibility rather than looking to blame others (difference in philosophy apart of course!)
