' He's back, Nicky Maynard '

I personally really had high hopes for Maynard.

' He's back, Nicky Maynard '

Nicky Maynard aged 29, Bluebirds supporters will look back at his time at Cardiff with a great deal of frustration and not a little bemusement. Signed by former-boss Malky Mackay for £2.75m from West Ham, his was an arrival to set the pulses racing at the time.

But before it had even started, it was over in many ways for the Maynard in Wales.

In just his third game for the Bluebirds, away at Millwall, he injured his cruciate ligament and was not seen again until the last game of the campaign as the Bluebirds, by now promoted to the Premier League as champions, drew at Hull. It was the day Maynard score his first Cardiff goal of the four he was finally to get for the club.

It was a second serious knee injury for the luckless striker who had done the same damage at former club Bristol City, the club where he once finished joint-top scorer in the Championship along with a certain Peter Whittingham of Cardiff.

At the Bluebirds, Maynard’s career just never re-ignited. He featured eight times in the Premier League, coming off the bench for them all, and failing to find the net. He was then loaned out to Wigan. He made 12 appearances and got one goal as Cardiff returned to the Championship and left the club when his contract expired at the end of last season.

After signing for the Dons, Maynard seems to be at least gracing the pitch more often with 13 Championship starts this campaign and three league goals so far to his name. One of those, of course, had to come against Cardiff themselves as Russell Slade’s men lost out in Milton Keynes on Boxing Day.

He has form for scoring against the City [for both Brizzle and Milton Kenyes] :angry1:

Didn't JET miss a decent chance at Loftus Rd earlier this season?

I honestly believe the injury sustained at Millwall ruined is career with us.

Upto that point he was playing very well for us and after we were promoted he was always going to be replaced. If he had a good solid season he would have started the Premier League campaign with Campbell.

He would've of been our top goal scorer if he didn't get injured.

Smashing lad and did us proud but wasn't quite at the high level grade required to be a West Ham regular.

Good signing by Cardiff to be fair, unfortunate in the injury stakes thereafter.

The interesting bit was the grovelling letter of thank you to David Gold from Malky, big Sam was furious as it basically was a CV and as big Sam called it not something a manager does to another.

Interestingly Malky became on the radar for a while when Big Sam was struggling, Infact the day before Malky was booted out, I bumped into Malky at reception in white hart lane, as a guest of David Gold, Malky was very sheepish that day , although Big Sam pulled off a great 1-3 victory and probably saved his job that day as at that time he was under pressure ..... Funny old game !!!
