Is Kenneth Zohore ready for the Championship? The Danish expert's view on Cardiff City's new signing

"I hope for the best but I fear for the worst" says Klaus Egelund.

But he’s more of a striker to fit the British game than Andreas Cornelius was.

We spoke to Klaus Egelund, football reporter at Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, to get the low-down on new Bluebirds front man Johore

Kenneth Zohore arrived at Cardiff City Stadium this week with fans hoping he has a more productive time in South Wales than the last Danish striker.

With the 22-year-old arriving from Odense via a move to Vincent Tan’s Belgian club , KVK Kortrijk in a deal worth a reported £1m, there has been suggestions the Denmark Under 21 international is being seen as one for the future.

But what exactly should we expect from Zohore? We spoke to Klaus Egelund, football reporter at Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, to get the low-down.

What should Cardiff expect from Kenneth Zohore?

Kenneth has always been seen as a great talent in Denmark. He became the youngest player ever to score for FC Copenhagen when he was 16 and he’s always been lauded as a great striker hope.

Unfortunately, I think his career has been marred a little bit by some bad advice and perhaps having too much praise at far too young an age.

Even though he’s not too old – he is still an Under-21 international – there’s a sense that he has not fulfilled his potential. He went to Fiorentina at 18 but it was when he came back to Odense that he looked to have found his way again and back on the way to being the striker we hope he can be.

He is a physical player, perhaps more suited to the British game than Andreas Cornelius ever was, but he is still very raw and he needs to gain some confidence to be the player many think he can be. There is a fear he has gone to the Championship at too a young age and I think he would have been better to have stayed another year in Denmark.

He has the attributes and has been playing at a decent level for some time, but it wasn’t expected that he was ready to move abroad at this point.

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

He is a physically strong guy – without sounding disrespectful perhaps you could call him a poor man’s Kenwyne Jones.

Maybe he is not that quick, but he has good aerial capabilities. He’s still very young so he is still developing, but he’s more of a striker to fit the British game than Andreas Cornelius was, he has more of the attributes you would say would be needed in the Championship and adapt to the way of playing against British defences.

Have people in Denmark been surprised at the transfer?

Surprised is not the right word, I’d say people have been more baffled by it. First and foremost because no-one really saw Andreas Cornelius to be a player ready to go to British football and Zohore is the same.

It seems to be more about money than the best move for the player at this stage of his career, money both he and the club could not say no to. In Denmark that’s how it’s perceived, that it’s not the best for him on a sporting level, so that’s why it’s confused people.

Do you think he will be a success?

I hope for the best but I fear for the worst. It’s difficult to give a verdict because there is a difference between what seems to be coming out of Cardiff in him being a developing player and the nature of a deal because loan transfers tend to be more about the short-term and making an impact.

I don’t know how to accurately give an idea whether he will be a success or failure because of that. If Cardiff are bringing him in with an eye on the long haul, I hope they give him the time because he has what it takes to be able to become the player he can be in British football. But you do fear this is about the short-term and if that’s the case I’d be surprised if he made a quick impact.

sure this was already posted here.... nonsense then too. he is 22 not 16, if he "isnt ready for the championship" its unlikely he ever will be.

to turn it around, if a danish lub bought a player off us and decided to ask Tucker of Johnson for the low down on them we would all be laughing at them for taking it seriously

I think hes more likely to be back up to saadi anyway?

But he could end up thriving in the championship who knows, him and saadi up front could be a good combination

Did I read that right "he's a poor man's Kenwyne Jones maybe not as quick" everyone moaned Kenwyne Jones was slow and lazy so we get someone to replace him that's worse. I'm also a fan that hates the abuse Cornelius has taken his fee or wages are not his fault it was the club and staff that made that part of the deal he was a 20 year old coming from a different country had a bad injury and was never given a chance to play or adapt his game a player can't come good sat on the bench and when their injured the only people that could be blamed for that deal was the bad management if he's not worth the amount find someone who is don't buy him and send him back cheap 6 months later ridiculing him for the problems you created it's crazy no other club buys a player that young and don't give them time
