Cardiff City look set to be given the green-light to sign Kenneth Zohore via Belgium – with the Football League claiming they are satisfied the deal is not being done to get around a Bluebirds transfer ban.

Zohore is understood to be ready to be added to Russell Slade’s squad for the remainder of the season as the club look to make a double deadline day move for attacking options, with Leicester’s Wales international Tom Lawrence also lined up for a loan arrival.

The initial reported move for Zohore has attracted interest given Odense will command a fee for their Denmark Under-21 striker with Cardiff currently banned from paying for transfers as part of the sanctions for failing Championship Financial Fair Play rules.

But it emerged on Saturday Zohore will be bought by Belgium club KV Kortrijk – owned by Cardiff backer Vincent Tan – before being directly loaned to the Bluebirds for the rest of the season.

Sources at Cardiff suggested the deal was not an attempt to circumnavigate their embargo but than Zohore was being signed as an investment for KVK and will arrive at Cardiff City Stadium as a development player to boost his experience.

And the Football League have confirmed there is nothing wrong with the Bluebirds’ plan, having already been informed by the club of their intentions, although they did add they would still look at the final details of the deal that is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

In a statement released to WalesOnline, a Football League spokesman said: “Common ownership of a number of clubs by a single ownership vehicle is not uncommon in world football, with the success of the Pozzo family whose clubs include Watford being the most prominent current example.

“These relationships do, however, bring with them a different dimension in respect of the movement of players.

“Cardiff City contacted The Football League last week with regard to a potential loan signing from their sister club in Belgium and sought to clarify whether such a move would meet both the requirements and spirit of their FFP embargo.

“From the information made available to The Football League, so far, we are satisfied that there isn’t any evidence to suggest this transaction is being designed to circumvent the club’s FFP embargo and that it is consistent with how clubs in common ownership generally operate.

“As is normal, the League reserves the right to consider all matters relating to a player’s registration fully, in accordance with our regulations and policies, at the point the relevant documentation is submitted.”

Tan completed a takeover at Belgian ProLeague side KVK in May, becoming the third club in his football portfolio having become majority shareholder at Cardiff in 2010 and buying Bosnian outfit FK Sarajevo in 2013.

It is thought there could be greater player link-ups between the clubs in the near future with Cardiff having already signed striker Idriss Saadi on the reccomendation of KVK scouts while the Belgian side this summer completed a deal for Senegal Under-20 midfielder Sindy Sarr with an eye on a future move to Cardiff.

Manchester City – part of the City Football Group’ owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group – are among those to have utilised ‘sister club’ relationships in the past with Frank Lampard having joined the Etihad Stadium club on loan having left rivals Chelsea for New York City FC.

Zohore is believed to be close to completing his paperwork on a move to KVK – whose managing director, Ken Choo, serves as Chief Executive at Cardiff – and is already aware he will be immediately included in Cardiff’s squad.
