They were just plain Orient back then. I was at that game and also on the pitch at the end. Great times!

They have been Leyton Orient since 1881 and as far as I know always have been!

Weren't formed as Leyton Orient, they've changed names several times over their history.

From 1966 to 1987 they were called Orient

Is this the Leyton Orient founded in 1881 you are talking about? Or another one?

Read the site you're linking
It specifically states they were formed as Eagle Cricket Club.

In an interview after the game with John Lewis and Dave Bennett Lewis was asked about his goal and he modestly replied that most of the credit should be given to Bennett as he had done most of the spade work

I was there as well. My first game that I went on my own without my old man.

My first league match.
What a first goal.
Call for handball at one end, break and score at the other.
Pity the Bennetts left and Hemmerman broke his leg, we could have built on that side with 3-4 decent signings

Remember it well despite only being 10. My first ever promotion. Great days. That season was brilliant and I still remember great games v Sheff Utd (2-0), Pompey (1-0), county away (lost 1-0 in my first ever away), Brentford 3-1 and then orient 2-0. We even appeared on match if the day for the Pompey away. That season and that team with the likes of the Bennett brothers and Hemmerman were the reason why I fell in love with ccfc.
Think that season we only played 16 or 17 outfield players but had 5 goalkeepers.

GREAT DAYS
a bit different from the 1982 season when we got beat last day of the season to luton to send us down
pitch invasion was surreal after that . sang our hearts tho in true kairdiff style in front of the grandstand

'Hemmerman, Hemmerman, Jeffrey Hemmerman.......'.
As a 14 year old sprog I was very pleased to have got a 'Your are my Cardiff' going when serenading the Grandstand whilst with my mate on my shoulders. I dug up a little bit of the centre circle and put it in my pocket too. You can't beat a good pitch invasion.

A differnt time completely a young kid or woman in sight, you can see a differnt level of passion in the eyes of the fans.....

1983? f*cking hell looks like the 70s. Not a casual in sight. Not a decent dressed one anyway.

Anyone ever seen any pics of a pitch invasion at orient in 1988? About 200 city fans made there way across the pitch after the game. Think West Ham fans were in there. My first ever away game, I'll never forget it or feeling relieved to get home in one piece either......

Plenty of side parting 'flick' fringes in there ... Some three stripe footwear too
