Boss hails ‘big talent’ Tony

Rovers boss Paul Lambert is thrilled to have secured the services of exciting forward Tony Watt.
Watt has joined on loan from Rovers’ Championship rivals Charlton Athletic, with a view to signing a permanent deal at the end of the season.
Lambert is a big admirer of the fellow Scot, having followed his progress since the precocious talent burst onto the scene at Celtic in his teens.
Watt played a key role in Cardiff’s victory over Rovers at the start of the month and was the standout performer in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at The Valley, and the manager hopes he can have a similar impact here at Ewood Park.
"This deal has happened really quickly,” said Lambert. “Tony came to the fore and we thought let's go and see if we can do something.
"He's a big, big talent. He's only a young guy, but he's been through a lot in his football career for somebody so young, so I'm delighted he's here.
“I knew exactly what he was like from that great spell he had up at Celtic, when he burst onto the scene and scored that winner against Barcelona, which probably thrust him into the limelight.
“He’s maybe lost his way a little bit since then, but this is a chance for him to get going again.
"He stood out in the games against us recently and he was a real threat to us. I'd rather have him in my side than not and I think he could be a big part in what we are trying to do here."
Watt has the ability to play anywhere across the front line and Lambert felt that a player of his calibre was something that the squad lacked.
“I wouldn’t say he’s an out-and-out striker,” added the manager. “He can play in behind and you saw in the two games he played against us, he was a threat and if we can get the best out of him, then we’ve got a real talent on our hands.
"He's only 22, so we don't want to put too much pressure on him, but I think we've been needing somebody like him to help us. He’ll make mistakes, like everybody else, but it's a great opportunity for him and hopefully he’ll make a big impact for us.
“He's somebody I think we needed. He's played in big games before, he knows the league, he's played a lot of games in it and it's just a case of getting the best out of him, but he's got that raw talent that can produce something that others can’t.”

Tony Watt
'I'm delighted to sign. It was a no brainer when I had the chance to join and hopefully I can stay here for as long as possible.
Becoming the latest signing under Paul Lambert, a man Tony Watt has always looked up to given his Celtic background too, wasn't something he had to think too hard about when this chance came along this week.
Watt, who has already faced Blackburn during a loan with Cardiff and after his return to Charlton, said the chance to sign for Rovers to play under former Celtic man Lambert was 'a no brainer.'
Not only did he want work with the man who, like himself, had previously spent time with the Scottish Champions, he wanted to come to Ewood Park and is keen (with him set to sign a permanent contract in the summer) to stay with the club for 'as long as possible.' He told rovers.co.uk the quality in the squad also appealed.
'I'm delighted to sign. It was a no brainer when I had the chance to join and hopefully I can stay here for as long as possible.
Blackburn is a massive club and I just want to play at the highest level that I can. We've got a very good squad - a squad that I've seen at close quarters - and I wouldn't have signed if I didn't think I could do something here.'
22-year-old Watt added Lambert 'said all the right things' with him able to sell the move to him 'straight away' with him likely to be given something of a free reign.
'He wants me to play free, to work hard and he wants to make me a better player, and that ticked a lot of boxes for me. He's been a big player at Celtic and that's the club I support, so obviously I respect him highly.'

I can't believe we let this one slip through our fingers.

Seems Cardiff City (whether it was Slade, Dalman, Choo or someone else) upset Tony Watt by not keeping him up to speed with developments at the end of his loan spell and once the FFP embargo kicked in
If correct, it shows a lack of respect from City 'IMHO after the fanfare they made about getting him here!
Strange how we have heard very little about the club's stance on the actual embargo since the club declared
"It is a technicality, a technical interpretation and we may appeal" and I can only assume the the FA were correct in their assessment of what the club had done
