" Who is Kenneth Zohore? The Danish striker that Cardiff City are reportedly lining up to replace Joe Mason "

29/01/16

BY MATTHEW SOUTHCOMBE

The Danish forward is heavily linked with a move to the Welsh capital, so here's what you need to know about him.

Reports are claiming that Danish forward Kenneth Zohore is on his way to Cardiff City for a medical after being eyed as a replacement for Joe Mason.

However, whilst Bluebirds boss Russell Slade admits that they are taking a close look at the 21-year-old, he says things aren’t as advanced as reports claim.

Here’s everything you need to know about Zohore...

How’s his season going so far? :ayatollah:
The 21-year-old is having a pretty good season in the Danish Superliga.

Playing 16 times for Odense, missing just two games before the winter break, and finding the back of the net seven times.

He went on a fine run of four goals in as many games midway through the season, but things dried up and he hasn’t scored in his last four games.

Zohore’s last goal was against Brondby on November

What does he bring to the table? :ayatollah:
He’s a big unit, the stats say that he’s taller than Kenwyne Jones!

That enables him to be strong in the air, winning flick ons and providing opportunities for his team-mates, much like the Trinidad international once did for the Bluebirds.

But that’s not all he has to his game.

He’s got pace and is comfortable with the ball at his feet, capable of dribbling past defenders.

What’s his story? :ayatollah:
At the age of just 15, Zohore joined Copenhagen’s under-19s squad, before going on a training camp with the club’s first team the following year.

Aged 16 years and 35 days, he became the youngest player ever to make his debut in the Danish Superliga.

A distant relative of Dider Drogba, he made his Champions League debut against Barcelona at the Nou Camp and went on to play at Stamford Bridge in the same season.

In January 2012, after featuring 16 times for Copenhagen, Zohore was signed by Italian side Fiorentina but was loaned out a year later having not played a competitive match for the club.

He joined Brondby on a season-long loan in 2013, scoring five times in 25 appearances, before go back out on loan the following season, this time he went to Gothenburg.

In early 2015, he joined Odense.

How much is he worth? :ayatollah:
Whilst Cardiff City are unable to pay a fee for a player at the moment, given their transfer embargo, acknowledging a value still helps to gauge the quality of the signing.

Over the years, his market value has fluctuated and given that he is contracted until the end of next season, transfermarkt values him at £280,000.

Any international honours? :ayatollah:
Whilst he has never been capped for Denmark at senior level, his record through the age grades is pretty impressive.

In the Danish U17s, he scored 12 goals in 23 appearances before going on to bag six goals for the U19s and seven goals for the u21s.

Where does he play? :ayatollah:
He's an out and out striker.

Whilst he's probably quick enough to operate in the wide channels, he'll be playing down the middle more often than not.

He'd probably need to play as part of a front two, because it's all well and good winning knock-downs, but you need somebody to latch onto them.

Saw a pic of him earlier and he's a big unit.

If he's quick to go with it he could cause a few problems in this league.

We aren't going to get the finished article in our position, so guys like this fella and Saadi are going to be gambles we have to try.

If one of them comes off , then brilliant, if both come off then that will be a welcome surprise and could push us up the table .

Certainly looks like we are scouting abroad for value anyway.

If he's big and strong like a target man figure wouldn't he be more of a Kenwyne Jones replacement than a Joe Mason replacement just saying we haven't replaced Jones yet
