Cardiff City and Wolves 'agree £3m fee' for Joe Mason despite City claims he was not for sale

WEDNESDAY 27 JAN 2016

BY CHRIS WATHAN

It is now down to the player to decide if he wants to move and agree personal terms

Cardiff City are thought to have agreed a £3m fee with Wolves for Joe Mason – just a week after suggesting he was not for sale.

And it looks now down to the player whether to quit Cardiff City Stadium for their Championship rivals.

The Bluebirds had been keen to hold onto the 25-year-old Mason after seeing him as a key part of plans under boss Russell Slade. Although they had told Wolves they valued the forward at £5m, it is thought it had been suggested to the former Plymouth man there was no intention from the club to cash-in during this window – not least because the current transfer embargo means they would be unable to sign a permanent replacement.

But it is understood a deal in principle has been agreed by both Cardiff and Wolves with only personal terms standing in the way of Mason following Kenwyne Jones out of the club.

Joe Mason looks to be leaving Cardiff City

It is thought Mason is currently unsure on a decision but will be aware Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has been a long admirer of his link play.

That was just to get the price up. In my opinion Mason is a good finisher, but has not got the pace to get into positions to score more goals, and many times gets in the position but cannot cannot control the ball.I think that Slade realizes that, which is about the only thing he does realize,, wolves saw how he played there and as he had a brilliant game, said buy him, they must have had him watched when he had good games. I expect LE Fondre will now be on the bench, hope he is not on his way back, as him and Mason are number 10's

He is never worth that much.

Not often I've said this recently, but great business by the club and well done to them.

Danny, you of all people never believed the bolloxes City have been putting out on Mason,Marshall etc, that to be fair was to try and get higher fees. All our players are for sale, so Tan can get his money back.

Do the Echo ever read back their own press?

6 days ago they were saying we may cash in - no direct quotes.

5 days ago he is not for sale - no direct quotes.

Now today they are believing their own copy.

I find it amazing that we still find a reason to have a pop at the club.

Gareth Bale and Chritiano Ronaldo are for sale if you descretly enquire, of course they are not saying that to the media.

Great business, they quicker the pennies start coming in the quicker Vinny leaves, that what most of you want don't you.

Probably Wez and can't blame him for that I believe even the most staunch supporter of the club ( myself included) would have to admit that whilst some of tans involvement was needed at the time he has made tremendous mistakes and only time will tell if some of those mistakes will cost us in the long term and whether he will ultimately leave us in better shape than when he came here

We need more fans returning as well and I believe the club should be extremely honest about their approach for next season, are they keeping slade? If so is his brief to remain competitive again whilst offloading further players and wages?

If he's going what's the next managers remit?

I believe that sort of transparency will help we as fans are probably some of the worst for expectations and sometimes as people of we were told to expect less than usual in advance it may just make people think differently about the situation

Vinnie would transfer the tea lady,if it made him money, those that believe he has any interest left in the football club are living on a different planet, that should be plain to see because he don't come to watch the games, all our vincent wants his to get back his money, reason we got a shit manger, who's annual wage is around £125,000,makes me laugh when people say we should appoint this or that manager,no top name would come to cardiff for the wages on offer

I'd say his value is about 500k , so 3m is brilliant news in my opinion.

Hopefully keep it to invest in the summer with a new manager.

The majority of the debt he has made at City himself, it's owed to him and by reducing it he is getting his money back, common sense.

Exactly.
The chairman and CEO attend virtually every game home and away. There are loads of owners that rarely travel to watch their team. It means nothing. Besides, with the hate and abuse coming from a large section of fans, I for one don't blame him.

Could we use this money to buy Watt? Forgive me if I'm wrong but can't we buy and sell on a 1-1 basis , with wages being the main factor if we sell for £3 mill and buy for £1-2 million
