What are we playing at?

Wed Jan 27, 2016 10:38 am

Just want to state my concerns of lack of ambition. What are we playing at? In my eyes, although we haven't had the greatest of seasons, it has been a fairly poor championship. Sitting 5 points outside play-offs with some decent fixtures coming up, I think we still have a genuine shot at promotion.
So if this is the case, why are looking at shipping out all our strikers during an embargo? Unless there's a dead cert opportunity to bring in better replacements on loan, It seems to me that we're settling for another mediocre ending to the season and worrying more about cutting wage bills (like the Jones to Bournemouth deal last season).
With Mason and Revell looking to go (Although I agree £3mil for Mason is a great deal for us), that would leave us with only Macheda (not good enough imo) and Saadi (looks promising but not match fit atm) as out and out strikers. Although Pilks looked quality against Rotherham, we cant solely depend on him to play every game, especially in an unfamiliar position.

I'm interested on peoples thoughts on this?

Said all along that as long as we are playing Championship football next season and have made big reductions in running costs and debt, Slade will have done exactly what Tan required. I don't believe for one minute that there was any serious thought of promotion this season, and that is why so many of us predicted a mid table finish before a ball was kicked.

We will need money to pay Langston off.

I completely agree but I guess I just don't want to believe that with the squad we have, the plan at the beginning of the season was purely to secure Championship football. It's depressing how negative it all is from top to bottom.

Unfortunately that's Cardiff City for you. Nothing much has changed here since the Goldstone era. We seem to attract a particular type of owner. A bit odd that Arthur Daley was never in charge, would have been more honest than most of our owners.

As we are under a transfer embargo and have failed to comply with FFP it is perfectly sensible of the club to follow a range of cost cutting and look to sell players at the right price.

The loan of Jones to Bournemouth was a brilliant business decision which netted the club something like £750k in saved wages and loan fees.

Because we ca'nt buy players with this money, the club may as well put it towards the debts. The judge might insist on this anyway.

We're in a mess and we all knew cost cutting was a priority, ambition to have a sustainable club must come before promotion surely? Especially now tan has stopped throwing money at us. It's the lack of clarity we get like dangling the carrot.

This of course could all have been managed better over the last few seasons and we wouldn't have to be in this position of selling what we can

Anyone with a hole in their @rse will know we would never go up this season , and were a mid table team at best - the performances and having Slade as manager bear witness to that week in week out.

I'd rather see Slade play Saadi, Pilks up front and use some kids from the academy. Macheda always seems to really want to try - but never does the right thing.

We need to cut our cloth accordingly - understand that - I'd rather lose playing well and trying than doing nothing, not scoring, being defensive and getting draw after nil nil draw with Slade

Tan is still a friggin billionaire. Anyone seen him at the stadium recently? Still think he wants out, leaving us with that pointless red stand...a legacy of his sheer folly.

We are back to what we have always been, a very average mid sized championship team. That's pretty good for the size of our City, I don't see why people can't except this. We could be back in League one ala Sheff Utd :bluebird:

I think it's seeing our neighbours down west doing so well. The fact they are a smaller city. Our catchment area is huge. We could be a much bigger club than them. If they weren't in the equation, then I'm sure many people would accept being an average Championship team.

What are we playing at?
Good business to balance the books and get rid of two players who have not and will not get us in to the top six - so therefore why bother keeping them in our current plight. Reserve judgement until Monday about who our main strikers will be for the rest of this season.

What ever it is its really tedious and boring

Re: What are we playing at?

There is no chance of promotion whatsoever.

They have flirted with the top 6 but never really put a run together, and they won't.

Mid table is where this club will finish, as most predicted pre season.

What is galling is that this championship is as average as any in recent history. Some ambition, and better management of the finances and the football squad would have stood a much better chance of top 2, let alone top 6. A real wasted opportunity.

What Tan has in mind for next season is anybody's guess.

This is what we fans need to know, and should know.

The money will be going back to Tan and clearing the debts he created at our club.

I agree with some of your points but define ambition? Does that mean investment because if so we're under and embargo and the club clearly seen this coming because last summer we didn't spend anything either.

Just to keep us stable on the cheap in the Championship is all that Tan wants but hope we could get a promotion if we're lucky.

He's paid 20 odd million to Langston ,paid 9m to omg,3.5 to Ray ransom so if we are 175 million in debt which I doubt it now then that isn't his debt
