' JOHN ARNE RIISE REVEALS... '

Wed Jan 27, 2016 4:42 am

John Arne Riise has revealed the chain of events that lead to his infamous bust-up with Craig Bellamy, the night the former Cardiff City man struck the Norweigan with an eight iron.

27th Jan 2016

Bellamy described his behaviour that night as 'pathetic' and 'stupidity of the highest level'.

And now it seems the row came about all because of a dispute over a Karaoke night.

Riise picks up the tale: "We were allowed to go out on a team dinner on the last night and I remember Rafa Benitez told us we could have one beer. Some had more than one...

"We had a private room in a karaoke bar. Bellamy kept saying: ‘Ginge is going up to sing’. I said: ‘No, I’m not singing. I can do a lot of things but singing is not one of them’.

"Bellamy wouldn’t leave it. I kept saying: ‘No, no, no’, but he kept on annoying me.

"When he grabbed the microphone and said again: ‘Ginge, is coming up to sing’, I went up to his face and told him clearly I wouldn’t be and to stop it.

"I left and went back to my room. I was rooming with Daniel Agger.

"When I heard the key in the door I thought it was Dan coming back but then the lights went on.

"Next thing I saw was a golf club smashing me on my backside.

"I jumped out of bed and was stood in my underwear while Bellamy was there shouting. He just said: ‘9am tomorrow outside my room’. I got there for 8.45am and waited until 9.10am but there was no sign on him.

"At breakfast all the boys were laughing and when Bellamy walked in they were clapping. Of course I thought about reacting. But in the end I just left it.

"Why? I’m not a fighter. Also I was worried if I did react badly it could be the end of my Liverpool career."

Bellamy left Anfield for West Ham just five months later, and returned to his hometown in 2012.

Pretty much the same account as Bellamy gave in his autobiography, although without the assertion that Rise verbally abused him, which is the reason Bellamy gives for the violence.

I found it hard to respect Bellamy as a person after that book

whilst on his ban from Liverpool for this, he watched Cardiff v Leeds and I met him in the hospitality bar and he proved what a tw*t he is, I am asked for his autograph for my mate's little lad and he said to me 'cant you see I am eating? ' yeah fair enough you may think..................but he wasn't having a meal, he was eating a packet of crisps. Anyway cutting long story short - we had to be pulled apart   :ayatollah:
Still think he is the right manager for Cardiff though :bluebird:

He has changed a lot since then Garry Speeds death played a massive part in him turning his behaviour around a bit.

His son came to our tae kwon do classes a couple of times and he took him. Must have signed every single autograph from whoever asked plus had all the kids from the skate park badgering him for photos after, and he did the lot . He was excellent as it would have done my nut in. I would be happy with him managing my club. i think he's have that edge and will to win that good managers tend to have. Malky had it, I'm not sure about Jones and I don't think Slade or Ole really did as they just seem to nice.
