What Rotherham did well

Sat Jan 23, 2016 7:03 pm

Rotherham came today sitting in the bottom three so although there was certainly some talent within their team they obviously had a game plan and to be fair to them they carried it out quite well.

They must have seen the videos of Noone's goals last week because whenever he had the ball he was quicky surrounded by two or three players and was rarely able to cut inside onto his left foot, thus meaning he had a much quieter game this week than last.

They also ran hard and put all of our players under pressure whenever they had the ball, even our back four. Our players are noy able to cope with being put under pressure in that way leading to a number of misplaced passes not helped by most of our players having wery poor first touches.

Putting the opposition under pressure when they have the ball is something we NEVER do in their own half or in midfield. We rarely try to win a tackle until the ball reaches the edge of our box with even players of limited ability like Rotherham having plenty of time on the ball without coming under any pressure.

We hardly touched the ball for the whole of added time. You may say that by then we were effectively playing with 9 men as Peltier was sent off and Pilks injured, but we seem incapable of playing any type of high tempo pressing game which even limited teams like Rotherham can use to their advantage.

They are not the only team to do their homework on us.

The OP makes an excellent point with regard to Noone. Every team knows he can be a goal threat when cutting inside and you have to question why Wolves were so poor last week when Rotherham were so good this.

We need to vary how we use Noone as his threat is an open secret and walking into dead ends all the time is pointless.
