' CLEAN SHEETS OR GOALS ? '

Thu Jan 21, 2016 6:52 pm

Traditionally strikers cost more than defenders in the transfer market.

It is not an exact science but clubs will often pay 3, 4 or 5 times more for a striker than a defender.

But what is more important to a football team, a clean sheet or a goal ?

Goals win games but clean sheets mean you don't lose.

So which do you think is more important and do you think strikers should automatically cost more in value to buy than defenders and if so why ?

So you agree strikers are more important and should cost more to Ryan ?

You win games with goals, a clean sheet and no goal only a point.

The Championship is all about attack attack attack as we keep saying on this board and it's this style that wins the league and gets you promoted.

So are defenders worth considerably less than strikers in an even market ?

By that I mean defenders and strikers who are capable of playing at the same standard.

What about goalkeepers? I think they are hugely undervalued for the importance of their position

Strikers will get glory through there goal rate and as a result command a higher fee, a goal scoring defender will generate a higher price but not enough credit. People look at who's top of the goal scoring lists and as a result the price goes up. Noone thinks about blocks a defender makes just his mistakes.

Goals for me :thumbright: :thumbright: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

As goals get the crowd going, goals are the most exciting part of a football game, plus the most important part of football is winning games by goals of course and without goals a game ends up in draws, so only one point instead of 3pts.

My daughter plays for a boys football team and all the boys ever want to do is score and be strikers incl her, plus she always tells me how many goals she has scored on FIFA.

After a Tournament what do they replay for weeks after the goals of course :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Hmmm?
But they do say,you build your team from the back and the first you do is have a good goalie and a strong defence :ayatollah: and Malky ran away with the Championship that way :thumbright: :thumbright: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :bluebird: :bluebird:

The answer is Both. During our promotion season, MM proved that winning games by one goal, or drawing, was enough.

Very good reply Annis, Malky did win a Championship based more on defence than attack, so deep down it is really both aspects.

Forwards as suggested the crowd want entertainment and goals being scored and the reaction to it is a massive part. Having a good defence is equally important where results are concerned though.

Defenders job is to stop strikers from scoring without needing to much technical ability

Strikers job is not only to beat defenders , but they have to score a goal as well ...... easier said than done though

Anybody that can do that on a regular basis are rightly valued more

1-0 to the arsenal. They did both every game. Very affective. Ccfc

Our goals for is only 4 behind Middlesbrough but look at our goals against! We have also scored one more goal than Brighton (who are in free fall). I think this shows that you need a good balance of both. Middlesbrough are only at the top because they have the best defense there are a few teams scoring more. Hull have the best all around squad and I would expect them to win the league.

Goals/ good stokers are more important , but to be successful you need both ..
