Wales and Northern Ireland will meet in a pre-Euro 2016 friendly in Cardiff in March, it has been confirmed. The two countries have both qualified for the tournament in France and will step up their preparations in March with a showdown at the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday March 24.
For the second fixture, Wales face a tricky trip to Kiev where they will face Ukraine at NSK Olympiyskiy Stadium on Monday 28th March (Kick-off 9pm local time). Ukraine qualified for Europe’s biggest tournament by defeating Slovenia over two legs in the play-off’s.
Wales have also announced a friendly in Ukraine just four days later, and boss Chris Coleman says the two games will be good tests for his players before they head out to France for the tournament in June.
He said: “We are delighted to be playing the two fixtures and they will be ideal preparation for our group games at Euro 2016.
“Michael O’Neill has done a fantastic job as manager of Northern Ireland and I am delighted for him. This will be a great occasion for both sets of fans ahead of the Finals.
“Meanwhile, the Ukraine are quality opposition and will be a real test for myself, the coaching team and the squad of players.”
Wales will take on England, Slovakia and Russia in Group B at Euro 2016, while Northern Ireland go up against Germany, Ukraine and Poland in the group stage.
