Cardiff City could still be in with a chance of bringing striker Tony Watt back to the Welsh capital, it has emerged.
Tuesday 19th Jan 2016
The Bluebirds had hoped to land the 22-year-old marksman on a permanent deal following a successful nine-game loan spell from Charlton during November and December.
The transfer was scuppered by the Bluebirds being slapped with a transfer embargo this month after falling foul off the Football Leagues’ Financial Fair Play regulations.
Watt, who scored twice during his time at Cardiff, was injured for what would have been his final game on loan with the Bluebirds as Russell Slade’s men humbled Wolves 3-1 last weekend. It later emerged the Welsh club had tried to being Watt back on loan once more after becoming unable to sign him on a permanent deal.
Chief executive Ken Choo confirmed the Addicks had said no to that offer, but now it seems the London club might be willing to revisit that decision, but later in the January window.
It is understood Charlton owner Roland Duchatele is actually keen to cash-in on Watt with a permanent move away for the striker the favoured option. Leeds have recently been linked with the former Celtic man.
The Addicks are said to be unhappy that the deal in place for Watt with the Bluebirds fell through. The transfer could have seen a fee rising to near £2m being paid by Cardiff and Charlton also had a sell-on clause in place, but that collapsed with the imposing of the embargo at the Welsh club.
But if a buyer is not found, near the end of the window, Charlton may relent and allow Watt to return on loan to Cardiff to get the player’s wages off their books. The new deal would be with a view to a permanent deal being struck in the summer instead assuming the Bluebirds’ transfer embargo is lifted in the close season.

Cardiff can loan up to three players this window with them now restricted to a 24-man squad. They would not be able to pay Charlton a loan fee for Watt, but it is believed there was no loan fee attached to the original deal anyway. Watt’s wages too do not break the limit Cardiff can currently pay to any players they do bring in either.
Watt is due to be back in training with Charlton this week and there are calls for the striker, who scored in all three of the Addicks’ opening games this campaign, to play some part when Blackburn visit The Valley in the Championship on Saturday.
Charlton are currently one off the bottom of the table and appointed Jose Riga as their new manager last week. It is the Belgian’s second-spell in charge at the club, but his first match upon his return ended in disaster on the weekend as he saw his side thumped 6-0 at Hull.

Won't lie, I find it somewhat concerning that Charlton are so keen to get rid of this guy, and is so desperate to pick him up.
Charlton.

Charlton.
He had a bust up with the management before he left for us and they need the money he can pull in, hence the reason they will only loan him back to us if it doesn't look like he can get a permanent club else where.

2 goals in 9 games.
Not a great return but he is the only forward we have had for a while who runs with the ball towards goal.
Hope he can come back here.
