' RUSSELL SLADE SHOULD IGNORE THE HEIRACHY '

After seeing one of, if not the best, Cardiff City away performances under Russell Slade on Saturday in the 3-1 win over Wolves, I sincerely hope that the manager goes again with the same formation at home games.

It may be serendipitous that he stumbled upon this line up but whichever way it came about, it worked!

Playing Joe Mason in the hole behind Anthony Pilkington looked like a partnership that had played together many times before and not making this debut partnership at Molinuex.

Mason linked the midfield superbly with the front line and his first touch was excellent and his hold up play too, it allowed and afforded Craig Noone the time to join the attack and our centre midfielders Joe Ralls and Stuart O'Keefe were able to assist the frontline also.

Peter Whittingham, despite his critics even at Wolves (and there were quite a few of them around me on Saturday) played some of the best passes I have seen for a long time by a City player, in spells he was sublime with his awareness and accuracy, most players would not have dared attempt to try the cross field pass, let alone deliver like he did, that found Joe Mason with the half volley with the outside of his left foot.

It has been said many times that interference from above has been problematic at City, not just under Slade but also Solksjaer and Mackay, but on Saturday it is said that Slade went with his belief and played his game plan, if that is indeed true then I genuinely hope that Slade does so at home games.

The 4-4-1-1 worked on Saturday and I see absolutely no reason why it cannot work home either, when we play 4-4-2 we look too flat in midfield and up front but with the one playing in the hole it all connected.

I am actually looking forward to a home game for the first time in a long time and even though it has been just one win and one excellent performance, it has really given me hope to what we could possibly achieve in the remaining games of the season, I hope that the players and management feel the confidence that the fans felt after Saturday's win and go and express themselves at the Cardiff City Stadium starting this Saturday.

Slade should ignore the heirachy, including the comments of the chairman last week, and stand by and fall on his own sword if necessary, because if that performance is repeated again this Saturday then I believe Russell Slade can start to ' prove people wrong!'

This is what most people have been saying for over a year...we simply don't have the players or firepower to play a rigid 442...what we do have is enough good players to trouble most teams if we play a more fluid and higher tempo game and just let the players get on with it

I may appear to be Slades biggest supporter to some but I really ain't.. I just think under the circumstances he came in to the job with he has managed to keep the club level and give it the reality check it really needed.

I think when the pressure was on he some how really decided instead of sneaking the result like he has done under pressure but decided to take another option, I wouldn't really it call it a risk.. playing some just behind the striker and in front of 4 strikers allows someone very much like Joe Mason with the ability and type of player he is to makes run in behind more with someone like Pilkington who is a midfielder playing an advanced role to slide balls in for him behind or link up.

I expect Slade to stick with the same team because Slade though overtime does learn from mistakes great post Carl. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Good to hear some positivity Carl.

But one win won't change many people's minds on Slade, including mine.

I was at the FA Cup game and as I've said, the way we played and what the whole feel of the stadium - I found that very hard to see.

I hope he can prove people wrong, but he hasn't so far and the pressure SHOULD still be on him. Not just from the fans, but from the Chairman, CEO and owner as well.

We should be beating teams like Rotherham anyway. Still think it was more of a forced side to be picked by Slade but yes hopefully now he can see that we were alot better setup against Wolves. The squad is still capable of playoffs if he finally comes to his senses.

Let's see what Saturday brings first before getting carried away.

It was an outstanding performance granted but prior to that we were dumped out of the cup by a very poor side & our dec form matched boltons!

It will be interesting to see if he plays the same way & personnel.

It's difficult for Slade, with so many wannabe managers and out of work ones, maybe it's not that easy to go against your employers wishes.

I hope Slade is left alone to do his job, yes, he is prob guilty of being a puppet. If he wins matches his way, he can cut the strings of the puppeteers

I am confused. The OP says that Mason played ‘in the hole’ behind Pilkington and linked midfield with the front line. I did not get to the game but all the reports that I have read said that it was the other way around, with Mason playing up top. That is what I would have expected. They are two very different roles. Which way was it?

Both. They rotated.

Of course we are assuming that Slade took the decision to play 4-4-1-1 on Saturday. What if it was the other way around and RS decided to listen to Tan for once ;)
