Eight rounds with George Foreman battering his ribs, kidneys et al . Foreman was splitting bags in training.I listened live on the radio with my father , he allowed me to stay up when I was 13.Personally I believe this is the greatest piece of sporting excellence of all time.

The best in my lifetime. They always say about sportsmen who transcend theiir sport. Mohammed Ali certainly did that. Courage and guts in the ring and outside it.Facing his public when tormented by a terrible illness at the Olympics and when paying his dues at Joe Frazier's funeral. Class.

Words like 'legend' and 'icon' are far too overused these days. Ali is both of those plus some. They don't make them like that anymore.

For all his great achievements he was a draft dodger and that in my eyes excludes him from any hero worship.
Thousands of Americans gave their lives in Vietnam and Ali ran away from that.
Think of all the war hero’s we have had at CCFC Fred Keenor to Phil Stant all bigger men in my eyes.
