' Bafetimbi Gomis '

13th Jan 2016

The Swans are thought to be prepared to cash in on struggling striker Bafetimbi Gomis with interest from the Middle East set to be firmed up with a £7m offer for the Frenchman.

The identity of the 30-year-old frontman’s suitors is not clear, but he was close to making a move to Dubai-based Al-Ahli last summer. Former Lyon striker Gomis has failed to impress this season but were he to depart the Liberty there would be huge pressure placed on the club to use the cash to fund moves for the greater attacking options they need to pull them clear of the relegation zone.

So they are off loading a striker plus their midfield general. This will raise them £20m which sounds great. The problem is they need to replace replacements immediately to stand a chance of surviving. Doing that in January is nigh on impossible.

The question they should be asking themselves is have they a good enough squad to survive.

Just hope they struggle to replace them and then get a few key injuries to see them off

My assistant manager, who's a jack said he's shocking. Basically another Kenwyne Jones. Lazy and can't be bothered.

Shelvey our midfield general? He doesnt even get a game any more. He started 1 of our last 6 Prem games and that was when we went with largely our second string against Palace due to the fixture pile up. We have too many central midfielders and dont need to replace him at all. Also same goes for Gomis, he hasnt been a regular starter for a while. In the last few games prefering Ayew up front and even Eder got a start before him prior to that. We have needed a striker since Bony left, not just now Gomis may go.

Do we need replacements in right away? No, I don't think so. We have a very good squad. We just dont have a striker that can finish our chances (that included when Gomis played). Im sure we could stay up relatively comfortably (45pts) with nobody else coming in, but everybody would feel a lot better if we gave ourself some options in attack.

Bony was being talked about, although i cant see that happening. Naysmith has been linked more recently which I think would be a superb signing and far more realistic. And also had a £14m bid rejected by Napoli for Manolo Gabbiadini - so im confident things are in the works.

A big game tonight which will tell us a lot about the task ahead.

not sure how much is true but a swans fan and friend of mine, said they have burnt through the bank account, and are now willing to listen to offers to help cover some of the cracks up

The accounts state your friend is emphatically wrong. Nice to dream though I guess.
