REVELL REPORTED INTEREST...

BBC

12/01/16

Neil Redfearn had previously claimed that dialogue between the two clubs had taken place

Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn has said that his club have made a 'tentative enquiry' for striker Alex Revell.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Redfearn reaffirmed his interest in a 'top player' who he said did 'unbelievably well' in his previous stint at the Millers.

He stressed the need to approach Cardiff with respect, however.

He said: "We're looking to bolster in that area. He's someone we would be interested in.

"The bottom line is, we can only deal with what we can deal with. If Cardiff don't want to let Alex go, if clubs don't want to let players go, then that's fair enough. We've got other targets and other things we want to do.

"We've got to look at everything. I think there have been tentative enquiries without there being a firm enquiry."

WalesOnline revealed earlier in the month that Revell and fellow striker Federico Macheda were set to follow Kenwyne Jones in leaving South Wales this January, and Redfearn previously said dialogue between the two clubs had taken place.

Cardiff boss Russell Slade strongly refuted these claims, however, and picked Revell in his starting XI for the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

Redfearn said: "He's Cardiff City's player and we'd have to go through the front door and be right with Cardiff.

"I think we have got to look at all of our options and look at the best fit.

"Alex Revell was popular here, someone we know well but he is one of a few. When we do decide which is the right one we have to go through the front door and do the right thing with Cardiff.

"We have to do what's right. Again Alex is a top player and did great for Rotherham and somebody that would be the type of player we are looking for."

Revell would be a popular signing at the New York Stadium, having scored 28 goals in 150 league appearences.

He has struggled to replicate that form at the Cardiff City Stadium since signing from the Millers almost a year to the day.

So he would be a popular figure for Rotherham having score 28 goals in 150 games - so 1 every 5 games :laughing5:

Totally agree. Revell is out of his depth at this level. He seems like a really good honest pro and trys his heart out but just hasnt got it at Championship level. The fact Slade wants to keep him just shows his lack of vision and still wants to have a player upfront who you can knock long balls to.

If Tan is unwilling to spend, and given Slade's record to date I don't blame him TBH, why isn't Slade looking at the youth teams to try and help the squad? Are our youth prospects that bad?

We should be looking to take the money and run where Revell is concerned and focus on the strikers who can make an impact. Let's not forget we still have Doyle and Le Fondre on our books, both I'm sure can do a job with the right manager......which isn't Slade BTW!
