Josh Vela: Bolton accept Cardiff City bid for midfielder

Financially-troubled Bolton have accepted a bid of about £500,000 for midfielder Josh Vela from Cardiff City, BBC Radio Manchester understands.

Vela, 22, has made 60 appearances for Wanderers, scoring once.

Bolton face a winding-up petition hearing on Monday and are trying to sell players in an attempt to avoid going into administration.

Meanwhile, Trotters midfielder Mark Davies' proposed move to Sheffield Wednesday is understood to be in doubt.

The Owls have had a bid accepted for the 27-year-old but are thought to be struggling to match the wages he earns at Bolton.
Neil Lennon's side have also accepted a £2m bid for forward Zach Clough from Bristol City.

Bolton are four points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Championship, and would face a 12-point penalty if they were to enter administration.

If Sheffield Wednesday are baulking at the wages they are paying Mark Davies, then that is an example of how badly Bolton must have been running the club. He's a decent player, but I wonder how much they are paying him?

Don't know much about the lad but one goal in sixty means he not a free scoring midfielder!
Good luck to him if it comes off as long as he's not another O'keef.

Mark Davies would have signed his contract in the Premier League so would be one of if not the highest earner at Bolton

Saw him play on Sky the other week, wasn't that impressed with him. Could be wrong but looked like a defensive midfielder, only 1 goal in 60 games isn't too great either... hope i'm wrong about him.

A defensive midfielder could be just what we're looking for to allow Ralls and Gunnar to move further up field. At 22 hes the right age

Oshilaja played that position for the DVP squad. He is a year older than Vela as well.

If only we had a manager who recognises the young talent he already has at his disposal.

It must be soul destroying for the young proffesionals trying to make the break through at Cardiff.

Won't have to worry about 442 after these couple of games.

It's not a bad transfer policy persé to buy young english players.

You just think that they can't be brilliant if they haven;t already been snapped p by a bigger club at this age,

I'm not with idea of Gunnar playing further upfield, he's our worse cm in possession.

He's played a lot of games at right back and had a couple of bad injuries, so if you calculate how many of those 60 games were played at full back and how many of those 60 games were sub appearances when being nurtured back from injury, his 1 goal in 60 games stat isn't too much of a concern.

I've only seen Vela play 1 full game home to Blackburn recently. I wouldn't say he stood out, but he looks decent enough in possession and has the energy to get around the pitch with ease. He's only going to get better at 22 and will join us on reasonable wages, so I can see why we are taking a punt on him. Liverpool bid 1 million for him when he was 17, so there's definitely some ability there.

I would ignore the Liverpool bid. The top clubs go around throwing million quid offers for young british players to go through their profit making academy systems.

When are you and others going to learn that last season was a cost cutting season? Therefore, pretty much every signing Slade made last season with the exception of Doyle (who I still think was worth a punt with his goal scoring record) was a cost cutting signing. They weren't signings to improve the squad, they were signings to replace our big earners on a much lesser wage, while still managing to keep us competitive. They were signings which had to be done for financial reasons.

This season, Slade started the season with a fresh budget and he has loaned out some of the players he brought in last season to free up wages further so he could actually try to strengthen the squad. Unfortunately, despite Slade offloading player after player to free up wages this season, Tan broke his promise of allowing Slade to bring in the centre midfielder he wanted during the summer transfer window. Apart from allowing Slade to bring in Sammy Ameobi and Tony Watt on loan, Tan hasn't backed Slade at all. Slade has still yet to be given a penny to spend this season. Saadi doesn't count as he was a Tan signing.

All things considered, Slade has done a very decent job with the constraints he's had to work under. Fans like you poke fun at Slade loaning his own signings out, but that's because fans like you don't understand the demands Tan is continually throwing at Slade to cut the budget even further.

Hopefully, Tan will actually back Slade to bring in Josh Vela and hopefully, Vela will prove to be a very good signing for us by Slade. Until Slade is actually backed by Tan to bring in the players he wants, none of us have the right to form a fair opinion on the quality of player Slade can bring into our club with fair financial backing.

Slade is going after these two games if loses them anyway so no point letting him bring in his own players he is going regardless at the end of the season but don't think he will hold out until then but he has done what he was brought in to do and that was to stabilize us and credit to him he has done that but now we need a new approach fresh ideas.

How can any new manager bring in a new, fresh approach? Whether it's Slade or someone else as our manager in the future, there will only ever be one approach as long as Tan is here, continuing to cut our expenditure and try to keep the team competitive at this level.

Now if there is someone out there who will join us on a similar wage to Slade, will be willing to be Tan's puppet and be able to cut our expenditure better than Slade whilst keeping us competitive and challenging higher up the table than Slade, I will be all for it. But until anyone can suggest a good alternative instead of stupid and unrealistic suggestions like Bellamy, Warnock etc, we will struggle to do better than Slade in our current situation.

There are plenty of upcoming managers out there that wouldn't cost the earth and If Tan will push the boat a bit and bring in a proper manager which he should as business decision otherwise crowds will keep vanishing I don't Tan would be stupid enough to get another uninspiring cheap manager again I think Slade was only brought in to one thing and cut costs and keep us stable and to lay the clear decks for the next decent manager I hope.
