County boss slams groundsmen...

Newport County boss John Sheridan is not happy with his ground staff.

Full story and quotes here...

I feel as though we should have made sure we did our best to get the game on but I don’t feel we did.

Paul Lambert has his say

We’ve travelled a long way and the supporters have travelled a long way, so I’m disappointed for them.
Water is lying on the pitch, so the ball is not going to roll and it’s dangerous for everybody concerned.
I never thought anything of it when I first arrived. We got up this morning and had a walk and it was pretty pleasant, so I never expected the pitch to be like it is.
It’s nobody’s fault, nature has taken its course, so we’ll have to come back down in a week or so.
The referee has a big decision to make and he’s called it the way he sees it. I understand it, but I’m disappointed it’s off.
John (Sheridan) and I wanted the game to be played, for all sorts of reasons – it’s a big day, a good crowd and we were looking forward to another game of football, but it’s not going to happen.
I just feel sorry for the supporters, because they’ve travelled four hours to get here and now they’re out of pocket.

They should have come up with a decision a lot earlier than 2pm, they don't think about the fans who have spent a lot of money to get there.

Look at that pitch, they would have known quite early today.

Unacceptable in my eyes.

David Sullivan They covered one half of the pitch and not the other ,, why , we don't know , but gutted , be changed to a Tuesday now , with half the number of Blackburn making the journey ,, should have covered it all up as unfair to the travelling fans , a hour before ko is un believable

An hour before is not fair on the travelling fans. I remember the coach pulling into St Andrews a few seasons back and there was still a risk of the match being called off due to the pitch being froze. It went ahead but we were not happy that the game could have been cancelled with less than 2 hours to KO and with no consideration for travelling fans. That said, we have had an astonishing amount of rain but that really should of been taken into consideration.

The post that the game should have been called off before 2pm is talking absolute nonsense .
Those who were not there should get the facts correct . The pitch was completely playable at 12.45 before heavy rain came in .

That pitch is well known for holding water, it should have been called off this morning.

Im not being outdone on this. I remember travelling to the moon back in the late '70's when we were playing Clangers United in the Lower Cosmos Cup. We travelled there for over 6 weeks only to be told 30 minutes before KO that the match was cancelled due to a poor playing surface by their then manager, Arthur Soupdragon. I've never liked playing the Clangers away for this reason plus their ground has a lack of atmosphere.
