Everton are being linked with a huge £10 million move for the best goalkeeper outside of the Premiership.

Cardiff City star David Marshall is reportedly wanted by Everton and has also been linked with moves to other Premiership teams but the Daily Mirror reports that the Merseyside club are the main interested party.

A huge stumbling block could be the £10m valuation that Cardiff City have put on their prize asset.

Many people were surprised that the 30-year-old Scotland international stayed with The Bluebirds following their relegation from the Premier League although Cardiff fans will argue that Marshall and his family are happily settled in the Welsh capital.

Cardiff are selling many of their big-name and big-wage players as controversial owner Vincent Tan attempts to reduce costs following his disastrous gamble on gaining Premier League status.

I think that this story has real potential although the £10m fee seems a bit unrealistic. I’d say Marshall is worth £6m at the most despite his excellent season in the Premiership.

Everton have been told that they will have to pay £10 million if they want to sign Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall, according to The Mirror.

Marshall is a player who is under constant speculation every transfer window, and Cardiff each time reiterate that they don’t want to lose their captain, who is one of the club’s best players.

West Bromwich Albion made approaches for the goalkeeper in summer but Cardiff managed to hang on to Marshall, with the goalkeeper remaining at the Welsh club. Cardiff signed Marshall from Norwich City for only £500,000 in May 2009. The goalkeeper’s consistently solid performances since then have increased his transfer value considerably.

Everton are the latest club to come calling for Marshall, with their starting goalkeeper Tim Howard not getting any younger at 36. However Cardiff are in a strong position for any transfer discussions, with Marshall being only two years into a four-and-a-half year deal signed in February 2014.

Opening gambit by the city-in other words he is for sale and we'll listen to offers.£5-6m should do it regardless of whether he's happy here or not.

If it was city in Evertons shoes i don't think I'd be happy paying 10m

Anything around 5m seems fair.

6 million & Conor McAleny will do the trick.

You don't want to get rid of your best players but Marshy deserves another chance in the premier league.

Team in over value their player shock.

I wish Riddler had started the bidding at £10 million for Rambo. Might have got more than 4.8 million for him.

One thought on this: if Marshall goes our season is as good as finished. If the club are holding out for £10 million and Everton won't pay I'm very happy.

Is this a wind-up ..... Or have I just seen Moore play more than you have?

He's a Malky signing. The dossier prepared would be very extensive.

Ha ha! Just like Velikonja and Cornelius then. Oh I forgot, they were both Tan's fault - what a joke.
