Kenwyne Jones' bizarre goal claim at Al Jazira as he takes pop at Arsenal FC following Cardiff City move

Jones has barely been in Abu Dhabi two minutes but he's already made something of a bold claim.

Former Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones has made the bizarre claim he'll try to score “at least 900,000” goals at new club Al Jazira.

And the giant striker, who has moved to Abu Dhabi on loan till the end of the season, has also had a swipe at Arsenal by taking unkindly to suggestions Jazira are the Gunners of the Arabian Gulf League.

Just days after signing on at the club, Jones, 31, made his Jazira debut on Friday but failed to find the net in a 2-2 draw with Al Wasl.

Speaking before the game the former Sunderland and Southampton striker said: “I am here to score goals – that's what I was brought for.

“I don't think it's going to be easy, even though this is not England, Spain or Germany."

He added: “The Arabian Gulf League has the potential to be one of the biggest leagues in the world.

“I don't expect to come here and score a million goals at once, but definitely if I work hard, I will try and get at least 900,000.”

Al Jazira sit tenth in the Gulf League and have been previously described as the Arsenal of the division in that they perennially seem to miss out on the biggest honours.

They are again well off the pace in the current campaign despite finishing second last season.

But Jones says that he hopes Al Jazira do not live up to their 'Arsenal of Arabia' nickname as he wants to win league titles in his time with the club.

“I've been told this is the Arsenal of the Arabian Gulf League," he said.

"For me personally, that's not too good as we need to win more titles.”

Jones is set to see out his current Bluebirds contract with Al Jazira and is reportedly earning a wage of £50,000 a week in his time in the Gulf state.

Because he scores goals and gets assists ain't that what a target man is supposed to do?

Still a better option than mason, revel or macheda though. disappointed that they have not got a replacement in already.
