' Time To Get Real '

Fri Jan 08, 2016 7:30 pm

As fans I believe it is time to be realistic about the running of our club, i.e The Owner, Board, and supporters expectations.

The club would have gone into administration without Tan's initial investment and subsequent takeover.
Tan made a huge error in the re-brand as it divided the supporters, but to his credit he eventually realised his error and returned the club to blue.
Without Tan backing Malky Mackay we would not have got promotion to The Premier League and he sanctioned huge spending but understandably he got angry when he discovered the racist texts from his manager and recruitment director.
We ended up with a huge bloated squad of players and Ole's inexperience was exposed so Tan had to try and stem the losses and cut back financially, so got Russell Slade in on the cheap with orders to slash the wage bill and trim the playing squad back to sustainable levels.
Slade introduced a 442 system which initially most fans were pleased that there was some organisation to the team and in my opinion he did reasonably well in his first season finishing 12th.
This season we are 4 points off the play-off places with crowds down to 13 to 14 thousand and although there have been some poor performances the team are playing out from the back not hoofball.
I do not understand some people on this forum who seem to be negative about everything regarding Tan , Slade and the team, when we are doing reasonably well with a realistic chance of making the play-offs.There are a lot of clubs in the Championship who are in a lot worse position, Bolton and Fulham for example.
Tan has made a lot of mistakes but the club is relatively stable with the debt being owed mainly to Tan and he seems to be sticking by us and I say to the doom sayers what alternative to Tan is there?
There is no white Knight out there to come and buy the club from Tan so I do not see the point in slagging him off when no one has even suggested a possible alternative.
So I say to Annis and the rest who want rid of Tan is who do we replace him with as an owner when a supporter led takeover who lead to administration and a slide down the leagues as Portsmouth did then our crowds would be back to the 5 -6000.

So get behind the team and stop all this negativity and who knows it could be a great season. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Tan is now reaping his rewards......stay away fans in there thousands.....a lot have nothing in common with this club....and yes I am a season ticket holder but the damage is done and it will take a while to turn it around... :ayatollah:

Great post.

It was liquidation without Tan's money not administration.

This is the best I've read on here in years. I hope a lot more have this opinion.

Well I would welcome a Portsmouth scenario at CCS if it became an option. Personally I don't think we would be down to 5/6000 but would hold what we have now. Those going today I consider the real fans. In fact the removal of Tan would see the return of a number of fans so I will go as far as saying our attendances would increase.

I was one of those who welcomed the Malaysians. If we do get a new owner I will be more suspicious of them thanks to Tan.

The thing that bugs me today are our supporters who say guys like me should move on. They are the guys that did bugger all in opposing the rebrand and were quite happy to take it up the backside. I'll move on when Tan goes.

I do not want anyone to move on ,we are all supporters who want the best for the club all I want is for everyone to fully support the team, there is nothing to be gained in slagging off those with different opinions, healthy discussion is what it should be, I do not think there would be an increase in crowds in administration as we have always had a fairweather support since the early 80's, when we do well it increases. There is always a hardcore support but the success of the recent years has meant a big increase of the average attendance.

There are still some deluded fans on here that thought if we went out of business (without tans money and hmrc wanting to close us down) that there was someone waiting outside the court that day with a bag full of money ready to step in.

Ian there is no way we would get 11000 if we were in the bottom divisions.

I don't think the removal of Tan would increase crowds. It was said the Blue would do that. It didn't. The removal of Tan would mean a fire sale of our best players and relegation. Probably liquidation too.

You were right to welcome the Malaysians. Their money saved us from liquidation. No matter what you say they are an improvement on Ridsdale.

Very good post. I agree with the majority of it. I have made similar points myself.

I agree with your comments about Tan. He did invest tne money, he backed MM, also he did help local charities etc. Whether he is a lovely guy or a horrible person I have no idea. I know that he is better than some Chairmen at other clubs. It would be beat if we had a local billionaire waiting in the wings - but we don,t.

Your comments are purely FACTUAL, rather than a personal anti Tan tirade. But if you tell a lie often enough people will believe it. E.g we are supposed to believe that Sam Hamman and Peter Risdale wre better more honest individuals!! You could not make it up.The trouble now is that if he stays he'll be slagged off and if he goes he'll be slagged off. If he sacks Slade he will be using him as a scapegoat, if does nothing he is letting our club drift into oblivion! I am just surprised that in the face off all the abuse, he hasn't already left us totally up a creek without a paddle. The SAD thing is that when he does say enough, some on here will claim a personal "victory" and that they have "won". Some people don't worry about the FACTS ,..they still think VT is picking the team! Or we will get over 10000 fans if VT leaves and we are playing Hartlepool in Div 2!
As regards RS .
As fans we always want something to complain about and we all think we can do a better job. I am no different. And while I have no wish to see anyone lose their job, I don't think RS is the man to take us forward.
