Dutch striker Wout Weghorst reveals the truth about Cardiff City deal and claims Russell Slade DOES want him

7 JAN 2016

BY CHRIS WATHAN

The Dutchman claims Russell Slade is a big fan but needs the go-ahead from Malaysian owner Vincent Tan to complete a deal that was all but agreed in December

Wout Weghorst has spoken out on claims Cardiff City are ready to swoop for the Dutch hot-shot, insisting the Bluebirds DO want to sign him – and that Russell Slade is keen to bring him to South Wales.

But the Heracles striker has claimed Cardiff boss Slade has to wait for the green-light from the club’s Malaysian backer Vincent Tan before wrapping up a deal that has so far been shrouded in confusion.

Separate Bluebirds sources have denied there is a deal in place for the 23-year-old and that interest in the Netherlands Under-21 international has cooled after initial approaches before Christmas.

It saw suggestions that Scottish giants Celtic were ready to step in ahead of Cardiff with a bid of as much as £2m with one report suggesting Cardiff had a bid of £700,000 turned down.

Yet, adding further to the plot, Heracles chairman Jan Smit told Dutch reporters that a fee with Cardiff had been agreed for the nine-goal frontman and that it was a case of the 6ft 5in forward thrashing out personal terms with the Championship side.

WalesOnline understands the clubs were close to an agreement in December, with a deal all but in place to make Weghorst an early Cardiff City signing this January before the terms of the move were changed and Cardiff backed out.

However, with Cardiff sources adamant they are now not keen on a deal for the player – despite admitting they are keen to bring in a striker following the departure of high-earning Kenwyne Jones to the Middle East and the decision to offload Federico Macheda and Alex Revell – Weghorst has broken his silence, adamant he is wanted by Slade and called for a resolution by the start of next week.

“I have said that I am here (at the Dutch club’s training camp) [but] by Monday there must be some clarity from Cardiff. I imagine it is still open, but then it becomes a different story. The coach and the team here deserve clarity and they can count on me," he told Dutch media .

“It has taken much longer than usually. The Cardiff coach is a fan of me and would very much like to have me, but in getting players it depends on the owner from Malaysia. It works differently there than here in the Netherlands. The manager does not have anything to say.”

What a joke with these so called transfers, so unprofessional !!!      It's no wonder we can't attract decent players, we want premiership football, and we are looking to sign players. For 450,000.   Laughable!!!

Swansea City have made an enquiry about Napoli’s Manolo Gabbiadini – but opted against launching a bid for the Italy striker.

Several reports on Thursday claimed the Swans had been knocked back after a club-record £14m bid for the 23-year-old goal scorer with the Naples club seeking a further £2m before considering cashing-in.

Yet it is understood that while the Swans had shown an interest in Gabbiadini, there was no bid lodged as they look elsewhere to solve the attacking issues which have punctuated their season.

Swansea are keen to bring in a frontman during the January window having failed to fire in front of goal this term and are thought to have been keen on a potential loan move for Chelsea’s France international Loic Remy.
