Rotherham United want to sign Cardiff City striker Alex Revell

08/01/16

Rotherham are in talks with Cardiff to bring striker Alex Revell back to the club, just 12 months after his exit.

Revell left the Millers after a four-year spell last January, moving to Wales in a reported £400,000 deal.

However, he has failed to make an impression with the Bluebirds, scoring just three times in 28 games and Russell Slade's men have said they are looking to off-load him.

Rotherham in "dialogue" with Cardiff over Alex Revell return

Rotherham's Wembley hero Alex Revell could be about to make a sensational return to the club just 12 months after his exit.

Cardiff City paid a fee of around £400,000.

The 32-year-old striker, most famous for his ambitious-but-brilliant volley against Leyton Orient in the League One play-off final, was sold to Cardiff in the 2015 January transfer window for a reported £400,000 after intimating he would not be signing a new deal.

However, things have not worked out for him in Wales as he has made just 28 appearances, scoring three goals, and after a loan spell at Wigan earlier this season, the Bluebirds have indicated that they are looking to off-load him.

Millers boss Neil Redfearn, who was not at the helm when Revell was sold, has expressed his interest and revealed the two clubs are in talks.

“Alex is somebody we have looked at. We've talked to quite a lot of players and quite a lot of players' agents and clubs. He's in that category," he said.

“There's been dialogue between the clubs. We'll just keep chipping away at the ones we're after.

Rotherham in talks with Cardiff over Alex Revell return

ROTHERHAM, LATEST NEWS UPDATE

Rotherham club call

Rotherham are in talks with Cardiff to bring striker Alex Revell back to the club, just 12 months after his exit. Revell left the Millers after a success-laden four-year spell last January, moving to Wales in a reported £400,000 deal.

However, he has failed to make an impression with the Bluebirds, scoring just three times in 28 games and Russell Slade's men have said they are looking to off-load him. Millers boss Neil Redfearn, who was not at the helm when Revell was sold, has expressed an interest and revealed that the two clubs are in "dialogue".

"Alex is somebody we have looked at. We've talked to quite a lot of players and quite a lot of players' agents and clubs. He's in that category," he said. "There's been dialogue between the clubs. We'll just keep chipping away at the ones we're after. "We've got to get what's right for us. He has got to fit in with what we want and where we're out but he is somebody we're interested in. "He's one of several. We're looking at quite a few players in that area.

The lads have done great to battle and fight to get us out of the bottom three, but now they need some help." Revell was an integral part of the Rotherham side which won back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship, famously scoring two goals in the League One play-off final against Leyton Orient at Wembley. And Redfearn believes the 32-year-old would not think twice about returning to New York Stadium. "There is an interest in Alex. He's is obviously someone who did well for this football club. "He's fondly remembered by the supporters here and I know he feels the same way about the club and the supporters."

When a division one player tries it at championship level it won't work. Same goes with any division one manager in most cases

Shame it didn't work out for the lad, he always gave 100% when he played so you couldn't knock his effort.

If only KJ put in half the effort Revel puts in he'd be scoring for fun in this league.

I thought we had him for next to nothing as his contract was shortly expiring ? £400K for a 30 year old League 1/2 striker, madness.

I bet the stumbling block is the compensation to Revell. You don't honestly expect him to go without us having to pay the difference in salary for the remainder of his contact.

I bet this cheap option has cost us about half a million. Thought we were cost saving. Buy cheap, buy often !!!!!

How long will this insanity continue for ?

It's not merely Revell that hasn't worked out at city it's that punch and Judy combo of Slade and Young that I blame. The Splott Market matching shell suits, the clockwork 64 minutes in substitutions, tactically no plan B, the signing of cart horses, the Kennedy mystery, the list runs on....
I'm not holding my breath on January signings but I've crossed everything in hope that these two are sent packing.

Allan you are on £8K a week with 100 weeks remaining on your contract so we are due to pay you £800K. You haven't cut the mustard and we'll let your old club have you for half the price we paid, but they will only pay you £4K a week.

You wouldn't sign for Rotherham unless we gave you a decent sweetner.....Your agent wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't want at least £200k compensation.

Does my head in this type of response. Revel would have been on several thousand pounds a week but lets credit him for running about like a headless chicken even thougbh he is useless. You could have got someone from the crowd to do it for free and same result youd get.
