Will Ferrell has been revealed to be the co-owner of new MLS franchise Los Angeles FC.

The Hollywood star confirmed his involvement in the team as the club launched their official crest earlier today, saying: “This is not a joke. I actually am a member of this fine ownership group.”

LAFC will make its Major League Soccer debut in 2018 by replacing Chivas USA, and is owned by a star-studded group that includes Ferrell, NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, star ex-shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, female footballing icon Mia Hamm, author Tony Robbins – and Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan.

In total, there are actually 24 owners of LAFC but we’re pretty sure that Will Ferrell is definitely the funniest among them.

How hands-on a role he will have with the franchise is, as yet, unknown but he’s not exactly a complete beginner when it comes to football as he has famously been a fan of Chelsea for years.
Ferrell has previously claimed to be a Chelsea fan, and spoke of his love for the game at today’s press conference launch.

Tan achieved notoriety in the UK over the past several years over the running of Cardiff during their short stay in the Premier League.

It’ll be interesting to see how he and his fellow new owners get on challenging the likes of LA Galaxy and NYCFC for domestic domination state side.
