Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn has confirmed talks with Cardiff City over Alex Revell

07th Jan 2016

Cardiff striker Alex Revell could be in line for a return to Rotherham United, less than a year after leaving the Millers for South Wales.

Rotherham boss Neil Readfern confirmed to BBC Radio Sheffield that talks between the two clubs had begun.

Readfearn said: "Alex is somebody we've looked at and are interested in.
"But we've talked to quite a lot of players, their agents and clubs and we've got to get what's right for us and fit in with what we do and where we're at.

"There's been dialogue regarding Alex between the clubs but getting players in nowadays isn't as straight forward as it seems.

"Alex is one of several we're looking at because that is an area we've identified that we want to strengthen in."

Revell has never been able to replicate his Millers form at the Cardiff City Stadium, making just 19 appearances and scoring two goals.

His most recent taste of first-team football was a loan stint at Wigan Athletic, where he made 8 appearances and scored once.

Redfearn believes a return to the Yorkshire club would appeal to Revell.

He said: "We'll leave it by saying Alex is obviously someone who did well for this football club and is fondly remembered by the supporters here and I know he thinks that way as well. I will say there is an interest in him but we'll have to monitor that as it goes along."

Good luck to him.

Really wanted to do well and you could see the passion when he scored.

Very professional player and despite what some people on here say, always tried, unlike some of their overpaid "Heroes".

Agreed.
The Rotherham fans love him.
These days though our fans think we are above playing workhorses .

Good luck to him, he isn't a player that would take us up, but gave us better value for money than many of the other strikers recently.

Alex Revell: Rotherham 'interested' in Cardiff City striker

Rotherham are interested in re-signing striker Alex Revell from Championship rivals Cardiff City, says Millers boss Neil Redfearn.
Revell, 32, moved to the Bluebirds in January last year and has scored twice in 15 league games.
Redfearn said: "Alex is somebody we've looked at. There's been dialogue between the clubs, but getting players isn't as straightforward as it seems."

Rotherham are fourth from bottom of the table, while Cardiff are ninth.
Redfearn said Revell, who scored 28 times in 136 league matches for Rotherham, was "one of several [targets]."
He added: "We're looking at quite a few players - we want to strengthen in that area.
"He's somebody that did well for this football club. He's fondly remembered by the supporters here and I know he thinks that way as well about the club and the supporters."
Revell has returned to the Bluebirds after a loan spell at Wigan, where he scored once in four league appearances.

I still think Revell and Watt up front would put us on the front foot the majority of the time, just because of their sheer work rate and never say die attitude. The opposing defenders wouldn't have a second to breathe.

I would give it a try away from home with our limited striker options at the moment, although moving forwards I 100% agree with Slade trying to offload a few strikers to bring others in with a better attitude than Macheda and a bit more quality than Revell.

I'm sorry but i'm going to have to disagree Revell is a hard worker but useless player at Championship level he was the one reasons why we couldn't score a goal for five games.

I thought Revell performed well for us overall last season. This season, he's a year older and it's perhaps a season too far for him at this level, as Revell is a workhorse where his work rate is his best quality. He can't keep that work rate going as he gets older.

But to put the blame on Revell for us not scoring in 5 games is harsh to say the least. Revell contributed to us climbing up the table away from the relegation zone last season.

He scored a great goal at Brentford and has one a few headers but he hasn't done much more than that and to say he contributed to us climbing the league last season is far fetched and this season he was responsible and the midfield i would admit for the drying up of goals he has no positional sense just runs around not a championship striker.

Good luck to Revell, his goal at Brentford was worth his wages alone in my eyes. At his age going back to Rotherham would be a excellent move for him in a prodigal son way, if he`ll helps them stay up, he`ll be a hero. Now can we offload Macheda please. :bluebird:

Revell has done a lot more for us than just win a few headers. He run himself into the ground for us and gave us the energy and unselfish work rate up front for the good of the team.

He never let us down and for you to say his contribution to us rising up the league was far fetched is insulting to what he gave for us last season.

I believe Revell will go back to Rotherham and he will do a very good job for them when given a run of games. He doesn't quite have the quality for a team pushing for the Premiership, but Rotherham will have a much better chance avoiding relegation with Revell in their team.

Yes his workrate i admire but no end product in the championship.
