Cardiff City to offload strikers Federico Macheda and Alex Revell in major January clear-out

Bluebirds poised to ditch misfiring strikers in this month's transfer window, just days after the departure of Cardiff team-mate Kenwyne Jones
Wednesday 6th January 2016
Cardiff City are set to ship-out more strikers as they look to clear the decks for January business – with Federico Macheda and Alex Revell ready to be offloaded.
Bluebirds manager Russell Slade has already seen star forward Kenwyne Jones move on after the Trinidadian talisman accepted a bumper pay-day with Abu Dhabi side Al Jazira .
But former Manchester United starlet Macheda could be set to quickly follow Jones out the exit door at Cardiff City Stadium.
Macheda is thought to have been told he would be free to find a new club – with the Bluebirds already fielding enquiries over a permanent deal for him.
Cardiff could make it a hat-trick of exits with out-of-favour front-man Revell another likely to leave south Wales this month. He could go back out on loan, having only recently returned from a short stay with Wigan.
The Bluebirds are keen to bring in new faces over the next month as Slade hopes to freshen up the squad for a push towards the play-offs.
A new striker is high on the manager’s wish-list, but there is a need to make room in the squad and on the wage bill first.
With Macheda failing to fire after his injury problems, it seems Cardiff are ready to move the 24-year-old on, with a hope a deal can be concluded quickly.
The Old Trafford youth product shot to prominence in his early career after an eye-catching winner over Aston Villa on his senior Manchester United debut.
But he has managed just two Championship appearances from the bench this term, having undergone surgery in the summer to try and rid him of a back problem.
It seems Cardiff have run out of time waiting for the former Italy under-21 international to grab his chance, Macheda having first arrived in South Wales on a free from Man Utd in May 2014. He has scored 8 goals in 28 Bluebirds outings during his time in the Welsh capital.
Revell has been told his game time will be limited after failing to make an impact with two goals from 28 appearances since his own move from Rotherham a year ago. As such, the 32-year-old will be made available for loan.
Their impending departures follow the Cardiff exit of Jones, who was a big favourite with a section of the fan base.
The 31-year-old claimed he had not been offered a new deal by Cardiff.
Cardiff have been linked with a move for Dutch hot-shot Wout Weghorst, but Celtic could gazump them.
The Glasgow giants have been keeping tabs on Weghorst after the Heracles Almelo front man’s impressive Eredivisie form which had brought admiration from Cardiff before Christmas.

Shame about Macheda saw some potential there if he didn't have injuries.

About time macheda went just a lazy disinterested player.

Makes sense if we sign Watt and with Saadi due back and the supposed deal done with that Dutch kid we need to ship a few out. Kiko is on the treatment table more often than not, Revell is not Championship quality so for once I'm in agreement with Slade if he gets shot of these two.

I like Revell but he is clearly not good enough...good luck to him with his new club
Macheda is just a lazy waste of space can't wait to see the back of him

He was in form 3 in 3 before getting suspended and injured and haven't had a chance since.

as always, with players we don't want, its one thing saying you will let them go, and quite another to find a club that will take them. macheda is a difficult one as he has talent but has made little impact here and doesnt run around much so is an easy target if he doesnt score.
we will lose money even on the pittance we paid for revell. no issues against him, he just isn't good enough for where we are or where we want to be. macheda will probably go back to italy, but clubs will know we want to get rid and haggle hard such that its possible we will not even get a fee.

I'd keep Macheda at the club for now and see what happens until the end of the season. I think there's a bloody good striker in there if/when he can stay fit!

I agree, I'd keep Macheda. He may be mercurial but he can find the net when he wants to. Useful back up at the very least.

is that good enough for slade? in our situation when he is only ever a few matches from the sack he needs players he can rely on, not players that may or may not turn up.

The strikers do need an overhaul, not sure I trust Slade to do it mind.
