Celtic looking to beat Cardiff City to deal for 23-year-old striker

Scottish giants Celtic are eyeing a move to hijack Cardiff City’s proposed move for Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, according to De Telegraaf (via Football Oranje)

Cardiff City had reportedly already struck a deal with Weghorst’s parent club, Heracles, to bring in the striker, amidst news that Kenweyne Jones has left.

Celtic , are hoping that the lure of a Scottish First Division title challenge, will lure the giant striker to Celtic Park, and the potential opportunity of European football.

Interest in the forward is high, with Weghorst having bagged six goals in the league for Heracles this season, and his physicality and aerial prowess could prove useful assets for both sides.

Whilst Cardiff will feel his physical style perfectly suits the Championship, the guarantee of continental qualification and regular silverware might just be enough to lure the Dutchman to Scotland.

Cardiff City currently sit in ninth place in the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated 37 points from 25 league games this season.

According to De Telegraaf, Celtic are preparing to swoop for Heracles Almelo striker Wout Weghorst.

On Tuesday it was revealed that English Championship side Cardiff City had agreed a deal with Heracles for the tall forward, but now Weghorst may have another club to choose from.

De Telegraaf are reporting that Celtic have been admiring Weghorst for a while and are now ready to swoop in and steal the 23-year-old from under Cardiff City’s nose.

The former Netherlands U21 international has netted six goals in sixteen Eredivisie games this season.

I agree it annoys me when players who are capable of playing in the Champ or Prem decide to go to Celtic just for a couple of games in the Champions league and in a crap league.

I'd imagine they'd pay a lot more in wages to him than we would if true.

Doesn't surprise me. We take far too long to cut a deal. We tell everyone for days/weeks who we are after and by this time others can then come in. Perhaps this is the plan as we really don't want to sign players but only look as if we are trying to. We haven't signed Watt yet either. Never mind we always have Macheda and Mason to lead our attack with Ameobi as back up!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :(

to be honest though, if he goes to celtic, he may score a couple of goals because the league is soo poor and then after 2 years of tidy wages, bag himself a premier league team.

I agree we have enough strikers if we get Watt, its midfield players thats what we need , also another full back could be useful

And me. If he can stay fit watt and saadi upfront for me. Pace and pace movement and movement directness and directness quality and quality that will cause havoc for defenses more than signing some lanky b*stard to win a few headers.

Disagree, Macheda and revel look likely to go. We need another option, it's important to have the option of physical presence up top, we jist want one more hard working and mobile than Jones was.

Not the end of the world if he goes elsewhere.

However we need a shake up, up front, 2,3 maybe 4 need to go as they have are clearly not the answer and better brought in. Watt has shown the others up with his performances so far.

Are the Bluebirds under the Despot more attractive than Celtic , who seem to have enough problems of their own ?

Let's wait for the 3rd party !

He's not the first person you've raved about after watching 2 mins of youtube. How many minutes has he played for us so far. Can't see how anyone can possibly jusge him on what we've seen so far. Could be brilliant but could be another dud. At least he did'nt cost £8m this time.
