He was appointed Nottingham Forest manager this day in 1975.
I recall the day very well as I have family in Nottingham. They all were not too sure about the appointment specially as he took their main rivals Derby to a first division title only to t be sacked for basically being awkward and expensive.
Clough struggled at Forest in the beginning. I went to our away game with them and that day Forest were rubbish. We went down that season but game away with a 0-0 draw. Many forest fans were questioning his ability at the time. I intended to agree with them specially as we managed to take a point from their place. Forest avoided the drop that season and the following season they had mid table. The next season they got promoted to the 1st division, 3rd place, and the rest became history.

Maybe Slade can take inspiration from his boyhood hero and we will be champions league winners in 2 years time.
