Cardiff are reportedly set to complete the permanent signing of Tony Watt for around 1 million.

4th Jan 2016

The 22-year-old has failed to settle since leaving Celtic in 2014 and the forward has played for Standard Liege, Charlton Athletic and the Bluebirds in just over a year. His switch to the Addicks did not turn out like many had imagined and the former Scotland Under-21 international was loaned out to Cardiff in November last year.

Watt has scored two goals in eight Championship appearances since the temporary move and the Coatbridge-born star is now expected to sign permanently next week. Cardiff are currently ninth in the table, just four points adrift of the play-off places, and they face an FA Cup third-round clash at home to Shrewsbury Town on Sunday before travelling to Hull three days later.

Inside Cardiff City also report.

Tony Watt is expected to sign a permanent deal at Cardiff City late next week with the Charlton loanee’s current loan deal expiring on January 16th. Watt has impressed during his time in South Wales and is set to cost Cardiff City around £1 Million.

During an interview last week, interim manager Karel Fraeye admitted he was “powerless” in Tony Watt’s situation and that the board would be dealing with the matter. Charlton are currently in sticky territory with supporters protesting against the way the club is run under the Belgian ownership.

The 22-year-old striker has scored two goals in eight league appearances for the Bluebirds following his loan signing on November 23rd. Many supporters believe Watt is the spark Cardiff need if they are going to compete for the Championship Play off places.

The deal is expected to be completed during the course of next weekend upon expiry of Watt’s loan at Cardiff. The former Celtic and Standard Liege striker said that he “feels at home” at Cardiff amid strong statements from the club that they have a deal in place to sign the fiery forward.

Charlton Athletic interim manager Karel Fraeye said “I think the situation with Tony Watt has to be discussed by the board and and it will be around mid-January when that decision is taken. It might also depend on what players we bring in.”

Cardiff are also expected to bring another striker which, according the Wales Online is a European forward currently based in the UK and more specifically the Championship. On the flip side, Cardiff are set to lose Kenwyne Jones to a foreign club after Jones and the club failed to agree a contract with a reduced wage.

I don't think style of play comes into it. Watt has not settled anywhere since he moved from Celtic so it's a slight concern.

Also for all his obvious skill in running at players his finishing has let him down lately.
