" Kenwyne Jones completes loan move to Abu Dhabi side Al Jazira and is line to earn £50,000 a week at his new club "

BY ALEX BYWATER

Jones finalised his transfer from Cardiff City after passing a medical at Jazira's training ground on Tuesday.

Kenwyne Jones has completed his loan move to Abu Dhabi side Al Jazira and is line to earn £50,000 a week at his new club.

The Trinidad and Tobago skipper, 31, finalised his transfer from Cardiff City after passing a medical at Jazira's training ground on Tuesday.

Under the terms of the deal, Jones will stay in the United Arab Emirates until the end of the season when his contract with the Bluebirds expires.

On completing his move, the former Sunderland and Southampton striker paid tribute to Cardiff's supporters saying: “I am really appreciative of the opportunity to have worked with a great team at Cardiff and to play in front of some of the most passionate fans in Wales.

“This decision was made based on the opportunities presented to me. I would like to say thank you to the Bluebirds staff and players.

“I wish them all the success in their future endeavours. I also extend a special thank you to the amazing supporters.

“It really has been my absolute pleasure. I will never forget you.”

Cardiff's decision to let Jones leave was purely down to the striker's wages with boss Russell Slade admitting the move was based on financial circumstances.

But the news he is expected to increase his salary by leaving the Welsh capital will come as a shock to some Bluebirds supporters.

With Cardiff owner Vincent Tan keen to stabilise the club's accounts, Jones' £35,000 a week wage at Cardiff City Stadium was seen as something which had to be slashed.

But he'll now earn significantly more than that in the next few months with Al Jazira who currently sit tenth in the UAE top-flight.

Done a 'decent' job for us. We have a lot of strikers and for the wages he was on, certainly glad he's moving on.

Hopefully we can bring in Tony Watt permanently! :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Kenwyne Jones: Cardiff striker set to sign for Al Jazira Club

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones is set to sign for Al Jazira Club of the United Arab Emirates.
The 31-year-old former Sunderland man has been with the Bluebirds since arriving from Stoke in January 2014.
Trinidad & Tobago-international Jones has scored 19 goals in 67 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh club.
Cardiff boss Russell Slade confirmed on Saturday that Jones was in talks with a foreign team, adding: "It's a financial decision, as he's on a huge wage here."
Bluebirds had opened negotiations with Jones about a new contract in September, with Slade reiterating in November that he wanted him to stay.

He was the Bluebirds' top scorer with 13 goals last season, despite spending the final six weeks of the campaign on loan at Bournemouth, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.
Jones has scored five times this term but was left out of the squad for Saturday's home match with Blackburn, which the home side won following Joe Mason's second-half goal.
Slade says removing Jones from the wage bill will allow him to add to his squad during the January transfer window.
"I hope it will be a busy few weeks. It will be tight financially but I hope we will be able to bring somebody in," Slade added.
"When Kenwyne is on the team sheet, the opposition see that as he's got to be dealt with. He's a threat, particularly in the air.
"We didn't have that threat today and we need to bring that threat back to the club to give us an option of being able to play a target man."
Al Jazira finished second in the UAE Pro League last season.

Could have destroyed this division, but just didn't have the desire, just interested in the money, but that's modern day footballers, not many will put their body's on the line anymore

Could have destroyed this league if we bothered to cross the ball.

Plays with his back to goal, lays it off to a speedy winger or 10 type and jogs onto the box to get onto a cross. We just rammed it down the middle expecting him to flick on and link up with his strike partner. Kenwynne is a product of the modern school of football not 1970's parks football.

Fair shout, however lazy & frustrating he can appear, we are still a better & more dangerous side with him playing.
Ask any championship defender who they would rather play against;
Revell, Macheda, Mason or Jones, I'd be amazed if any said Jones?
If we don't replace him with somebody decent we could be on a slippery slope.

One man who is on his way out of Cardiff City Stadium is striker Kenwyne Jones, who has held talks with Abu Dhabi club Al Jazira and Chinese side Shanghai SIPG over a £50,000 a week loan deal.

Defender Gabriel Tamas is also on his way out without playing a minute of first-team football.

The Romanian international, 32, joined the Bluebirds on a one-year deal in August, with the option for a further year’s extension.

However, the former West Brom and Watford man has not been able to force his way into Russell Slade’s plans with Matt Connolly, Sean Morrison and Bruno Manga ahead of him in the pecking order.

Tamas has not featured at all for the first team, and has not been involved in a matchday squad since the end of November.

agree

Totally agree. A different system and a winger who can deliver a better cross would have produced a much better goal return from Kenwyne. He did not deserve some of the stick that he got from some, including the morons who sit behind me.
