' Cardiff Slap On A £10m Price Tag '

Cardiff City have reportedly placed a whopping £10m price tag on Everton transfer target David Marshall.
The Premier League outfit, who drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Sunday, are keen on recruiting the Scotland international goalkeeper in the January transfer window as competition for fellow shot stoppers Tim Howard and Joel Robles.

The 30-year-old, who has 20 international caps for his country, has kept eight clean sheets in 20 league games for the Championship side so far this season.
Marshall, who is regarded as Russell Slade’s Bluebirds’ prized asset at the club, was the subject of a failed £5m bid from fellow Premier League rivals West Brom in the summer.

From Walesonline.

Cardiff City have issued a firm ‘hands off’ warning over captain David Marshall - slapping an astonishing £10m transfer fee on the goalkeeper!

The 30-year-old Scottish international is seen as one of the Bluebirds’ main assets and looks likely to attract interest from clubs in the Premier League during the January transfer window.

But sources at the club have told WalesOnline only ‘silly money’ will tempt them to sell Marshall.

Last summer West Brom tested Cardiff’s resolve to hold onto Marshall, seeing a £5m bid rejected . Already this month Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been linked with a move for the goalkeeper for a similar fee.

But sources at the club have denied interest from Everton, saying no enquiry has been made, although they acknowledge it is still early days in the January transfer window.

But the Bluebirds are determined to hold onto the man who garnered rave reviews for his performances during the club’s single season in the top-flight.

Reports have suggested Cardiff value Marshall at around £6m, but we understand the Bluebirds would only consider letting their skipper go for a massive fee, possibly even in the region of £10m.

A senior source at the club described Marshall as being regarded as ‘irreplaceable’ right now and totally essential if Russell Slade is to keep his side’s Championship play-off push on track in the second-half of the campaign.

The club do, however, accept the situation regarding Marshall, who in February 2014 signed a new contract to keep him at Cardiff until 2018, might be very different in the summer if the Bluebirds fail in their bid to be promoted to the Premier League.

Marshall was signed by Cardiff from Norwich in May 2009 for a fee worth £500,000. He has gone on to make 258 appearances for the Welsh club and was made captain by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in September 2014 after Mark Hudson departed the Bluebirds.

Good - were all fed up of giving our players away over the years.

If they want him come pay for him!

For a keeper who can walk into a Prem team that's realistic.

Everton wont pay that for a keeper

Teams like Everton in the PL expect to pick up a top keeper for 5m, but theyle splash that on an outfield player like it's nothing

De gea is worth 39 million then Marshall is easily worth 10

If true, then the club need to be applauded on this one, too many times over the years we have virtually given players away.

De Gea is only worth that kind of money to the 3 or 4 clubs who can afford to pay it

It's a very fair price for one of the best shot stoppers there is and at 30 has another 10 years left in him.

Re: Cardiff Slap On A £10m Price Tag.

Mon Jan 04, 2016 3:24 pm

Tbh I think that is overpriced.

Re: Cardiff Slap On A £10m Price Tag.

Mon Jan 04, 2016 3:32 pm

he's not worth £10m, probably about £7.5m, halfway between west brows valuation and ours.

if a club wants him they should have to pay for him, not mess us around and try to unsettle the player with low offers like west brom did. good to see the club stick to their guns for once.

No - it shows a lack of ambition!!!!
At last somebody is beginning to realise that if we sell Marshall it will cost us points between now and May.

Maybe he has indicated that he is quite settled here and not too interested in moving?
That gives the club room to ask for a higher price.

To the likes of Real Madrid yes.

A players value is often dependent on the circumstances of the buying and selling clubs. Clubs know United are desperate and the prices they got charged last summer were massively inflated because it was Manchester United. Is Martial worth 19m more than Alexis Sanchez? No he isnt but selling clubs had a blank cheque when it come to United last summer.

When Liverpool had the Suarez money other clubs knew they had money to burn so upped their price for Liverpool. Lovren 20m ffs.

Everton have never been a club that throws money around willy nilly and I dont see them paying 10m for a goalkeeper.

I also dont see us turning down 6 million given how much debt we are in we are hardly in a position to play hardball.

With the new tv deal for premier clubs, £10mill is realistic. City would settle for slightly less I'm sure.
A quality keeper is vital in the premier and Marshall is quality, and quality costs hence the £10mill tag :ayatollah:

Agreed.

Proved himself in Europe and on World stage
And now a stellar season in the self proclaimed best league in the world.

Whilst in reality no single man is worth £10m this is Modern Football and if Marsh was at Everton and A bigger club was sniffing they wouldn't budge for anything less than £10m.

What clubs does Marshall 'walk into' then? Why hasn't he been sold before if so many clubs are begging him to play for them. Cardiff are on record saying 4- 5mil cash up front he can leave

In fairness to Marshall he is a true pro, he is happy at Cardiff and has never tried to force a glamour move away from CCS.

Will be delighted to see him stay :)

Good news he would be a big loss, however IMO the first big offer that comes in, he will be gone, WBA would be my guess :ayatollah:

BULLSHIT IN MY OPINION

I honestly believe this is to tout Marshall out there, get his name spoken about in all the nationals by saying £10mill   and if a straight £5mill is offered, City will grab it.

Its already all over Sky/Football League

If we are suggesting £10m & have allegedly turned down £5m previously, then as you suggest we would probably sell at £7.5m maybe even as low as £6million

Cardiff slam £10m price tag on David Marshall to fend off potential suitors
CARDIFF have slapped a £10m price tag on goalkeeper David Marshall.

The Championship play-off contenders are desperate to hold on to the Scotland international, who has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

Everton were thought to be weighing up a move for the 30-year-old with Tim Howard struggling for his best form, while West Brom made efforts to land Marshall last summer.

The former Norwich keeper was the star of Cardiff’s sole Premier League season, making the most saves of any top-flight stopper, and has been back to his best so far this season.

But manager Russell Slade knows losing his number one would have a detrimental effect on Cardiff’s promotion hopes, although the Welsh club know they may struggle to hang on to Marshall come the summer should they fail to return to the Premier League.

Everton transfer target David Marshall given £10million price tag by Cardiff

The Toffees face paying huge fee to land Scotland goalkeeper who cost the Bluebirds just £500,000 in 2009 during this month's window

Cardiff City have placed a massive £10million price tag on their Scotland international goalkeeper David Marshall.

Marshall is a January target for Everton but the Bluebirds will only sell if they get an offer that is simply too good to refuse.

They are in a strong bargaining position as former Celtic keeper Marshall is under contract until the summer of 2018 having signed a four-and-a-half year deal in February 2014.

West Bromwich Albion tried to sign Marshall last summer but couldn’t agree a fee.

Marshall cost Cardiff just £500,000 from Norwich in May 2009.

He has made 258 appearances for the Welsh club.
