' Championship spending '

Sun Jan 03, 2016 8:20 pm

Championship teams spent £100m in the summer transfer window – far more than second-tier teams in Germany, Italy, Spain and France.

Bundesliga B (£25.5m) Serie B (£14.6m), Liga Adelante (£3.65m) and Ligue 2 (£730,000)

Considering clubs like Derby had spent £20m in the summer.
Why do fans expect us to challenge when everyone has spent?

All we spent in the summer was £750,000 on Saadi

Because City already had a quality squad there and one of the biggest in the Championship, at the very least one of the best back in August.

Derby are challenging for autos we are clearly not. Stupid comparison.

We have however spent as much on this squad in fees in wages and transfer fees than most of the division bar Derby, Boro, Burnley and Hull. Possibly QPR but they are in a mess like we were last year.

We have certainly spent more than the likes of Rotherham, MK Dons, Birmingham, Preston, Leeds. etc yet we constantly come up short against these sides.

It's not unreasonable to expect City to be making the play offs with the squad they had beginning of the season. Now cos Russ is falling short we are likely to see the squad ripped apart in January.

I can see the board settling for mid table again and loaning out our players come end of Feb to save a few thousand on wages.

No ambition and the sad thing is if we had a half decent manager and one or two decent signings on loan from the prem we are not a million miles away.

We're not a million miles away now in fairness. Initially we were solid at the back and keeping clean sheets, now we've opened up a bit and scored some goals. I just think slade needs to find that balance. I'm really enjoying some of the games at the minute, I think some people are exaggerating the style of play. It was embarrassing playing hoofball so it's nice to see us keeping it now and on the floor too.

I know a few people went on to u because of your backing of slade but don't back down. He's doing just fine. Nothing amazing of course but tonnes of fans said we're going down under slade. 4 points off the playoffs after new year? The table doesn't lie, we're there because we're meant to be there. We've been more unlucky than lucky this season.

I think further player sales were always happening only way I think we wouldn't be further balancing the books is if we were top 2

Anything else and I'm adamant it would have happened and the board were always going to say playoffs was our ambition as what else would they say , we are gonna rip the squad apart for the second season running but please pay £600 for your season tickets?

However I do agree with most of your post that we are only one or two quality players from the playoffs and maybe a better manager would have got us challenging higher but it is a maybe I do think however some rate our squad better than it is Barr a few of them there's not many that would command significant fees

You can say we paid this and we paid that but that was then this is now apart from Marshall manga Morrison Fabio and maybe noone I'm struggling to think of anyone that commands a 7 figure sum I have just worked 16 hours mind you
