Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones is a target for Sven-Goran Eriksson at Shanghai SIPG.

Initial overtures have been made to the former Stoke striker and a deal is expected to gather pace in the next few days.
Eriksson wants to take Jones on an initial loan.

The Trinidad and Tobago frontman has played regularly for the Bluebirds this season; scoring five goals in 20 appearances.
But the lure of huge riches in China could prove to good a proposition for Jones to turn down this month. Likewise, Cardiff are not against offloading Jones’ salary off their wage bill.


There has been huge investment into the Chinese Super League in recent months and there is a desire to land a number of player from Europe to raise the division’s profile.
Indeed, Sportsmail revealed last month how Shanghai were targeting Wayne Rooney in a deal that would net the Manchester United striker £75million over three years.

Rob them. Clubs like this are loaded, demand a massive loan fee of some sort if we can't get a transfer fee. Get all the money we can

Right decision to let him go but got to give it to him he gave us a good option for set peices in attacking positions and defensive positions too. If it wasn't for his wage id say keep him. Slade really needs to bring in a target man because we looked clueless at set pieces against Blackburn

Probably the latter, his goal talley this season is only 5, not really a huge demand for him to start a bidding war

Hopefully this can be done quickly now.

No point in having a player who plainly does not want to be here and is such a huge drain on the wage bill.

Strange how every time Kenwyne leaves a club their fans all say exactly the same thing - can be a handful when he wants to be but very rarely wants to be.

Certainly offers something but a very frustrating player.

Don't think anyone will be willing to give him a lift to China.
