Bluebirds boss Russell Slade says Tommy O'Sullivan and Jazzi Barnum-Bobb can remain on loan at Rodney Parade

CARDIFF City manager Russell Slade has handed Newport County AFC a big boost by stating that he’s happy for Tommy O’Sullivan and Jazzi Barnum-Bobb to remain on loan at Rodney Parade.

The Bluebirds pair are due to return to the capital this week unless the two clubs agree an extension but Slade says that won’t be a problem.

O’Sullivan and Barnum-Bobb have been a big hit with County fans since arriving on loan in October and Slade is pleased to see them get regular football.

Asked if the duo will be allowed to stay with the Exiles, Slade told the Argus: “We will assess that as the window goes on but the most important thing is that they’re playing and I won’t unsettle them unless I really have to.

“We can extend those two at this moment in time.

“It’s very important that they’re getting first team football.”

Slade was speaking after his side earned three vital Championship points with a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers – County’s opponents in the FA Cup third round next weekend.

The defeat was a third successive 1-0 defeat on the road for Rovers and manager Paul Lambert says his side will be going all out for victory at Rodney Parade.

“We’ve got to stop losing games and that’s what we’ll try to do next week, we’ll go as strong as we can in the cup and try to get the win,” said Lambert.

“It will be a really tough game. No disrespect to Newport but it will be a big game for them.

“I don’t know the gate but it’ll be a tough game and there’s no real expectancy on Newport.

“We’ll go as strong as we can; we won’t treat it lightly, we’ll just try to get through.

“We’ll have to be professional and bang on our game because you see upsets all over the world, teams beating bigger teams.

“We have to make sure that we’re right at it and ready to perform.

“I was never going to treat it lightly,” he added. “I was always going to go as strong as we can.

“The only thing a run of defeats does is make it a little bit easier to know who to pick and who not to pick.

“But that’s football; if you don’t perform you leave yourself open to maybe not playing in the next one.”

This is the right move. Lets get our main team settled and bring them back next year.

Neither are likely to get a start in the league for us at this stage and I'm pretty sure they both cup tied playing for Newport in last round so best move is to keep them playing regular first team in Newport

Hopefully they will stay until the end of the season to gain more league experience. If we are well out of the running for the playoffs then recall them so they get some championship games. Would really like to see Tommy O'Sullivan finally come through had high hopes for this kid.
