Everton are lining up a £5m switch for Cardiff City custodian David Marshall.

Current Toffees Number 1 Tim Howard has come under fire for his perceived dip in form over the past few weeks, with manager Roberto Martinez reportedly exploring other options between the sticks.

Despite only signing a new deal in the Welsh capital recently, the Merseyside outfit are said to be hoping a £5m bid will be enough to prize the Scot away.

If Everton or any club offer the £5mill as one payment, Ive been told then Marshall will be sold.

Would you sell David Marshall?

Everton FC ready to make £5m swoop for Cardiff City goalkeeper and captain David Marshall

Everton are interested in signing David Marshall from Cardiff City in the January transfer window.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that Everton want to recruit the goalkeeper as a replacement for Tim Howard.

Howard has been on the books of the Merseyside outfit for almost a decade. The goalkeeper initially joined the Toffees on loan from Manchester United for the 2006-07 season and thereafter made the move permanent, as reported by BBC Sport at the time.

The USA international is the first-choice goalkeeper at the Toffees at the moment, but the 36-year-old has made mistakes this season and fans are not happy with his performance (click here to read more).

Marshall has been on the books of Cardiff since 2009 and has a contract until June 2018.

“Marshall is under contract at Cardiff until the summer of 2018, having signed a four-and-a-half-year deal in February 2014,” added the report in The Mirror. “However, he has Premier League ambitions, something the Welsh club cannot currently match.”

Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall is being targeted in a £5m swoop by Everton during the transfer window according to reports.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez apparently sees the 30-year-old as the perfect man to put pressure on current shot-stopper Tim Howard

The Merseysiders have conceded 28 goals in just 19 Premier League matches and Howard has been criticised as a result. He was again under fire after Everton’s 4-3 defeat against Stoke City on Monday.

Marshall is Cardiff captain and recently signed a new deal to keep him in the Welsh capital until 2018, but Everton are hoping a transfer fee of around £5m might be enough to tempt the Welsh club to sell.

Marshall, who joined the Bluebirds from Norwich in March 2009 for £500,000, has proved one of the club’s most consistent players. During the Bluebirds’ single season in the Premier League he earned rave reviews and has been linked with a move back to the to-flight since.

In the summer the Scotland number one was reportedly close to a move to West Brom, but the deal collapsed when the Baggies refused to match the fee apparently placed on the player by the Bluebirds.

At the time Cardiff manager Russell Slade insisted he did not want to see his international shot-stopper leave the club.

“I would not want to lose a player of David’s quality. He is an integral part of what we have done,” said Slade.

“He is a talent and is a sought after player, but no amount of money will be enough. Sometimes a player is difficult to replace and David falls into the category.”

I don't think any club will come in with a straight, no strings attached £5 million offer,,,more likely be a cash plus player/s swap deal.

Great timing on all this talk of player sales.
A disgruntled support already, season tickets due and a marmite manager.

Only at our club.

Sometimes it feels we are expected to accept things just because we can't "go elsewhere", a captive audience so to speak.

The propoganda needs to go into overdrive to get the floating voters back on side. I just can't see it happening.

It would be more likely £5 million in instalments over 2 or 3 years. That's what majority of clubs do these days

Worth twice that. If we really want to even get in the playoffs, we must keep him. Simple as!

No I wouldn't sell.
If we have any ambition then we shouldn't sell our best players like Marshall and Manga.

If he doesn't go in Jan and we cant give him PL soon he most probably be gone in the summer.

No less than 5m with add on's. Wouldn't want to lose him but he needs the challenge soon :ayatollah:

Ive photographed Everton quite a bit this season - and IMHO - ,and I say this very reluctantly, Marshall will walk straight into the number 1 position.

Robles is not quite as good as Howard and, certainly in the last two games Ive photographed, Howard has made blunders which have cost goals.

It is also rumoured that Howard is planning a move back to the US where he is planning on getting re-married.

I can see this one Im afraid.

There all for sale at the rite price I couldnt give two hoots as long as tan fucks off one day as we all know he's fleeching what he can while he can, it comes as no supprise to me we have no ambition as we are cutting back as stated by the club. Rite now we are mid table side when 4-5 first teamers leave which they will before the start of next season who knows where we will be then. We as fans will reap what we sow by letting tan start his circus in the first place for a glory trip to the prem with the carrot of MONEY and broken promises along the way sadly. We are all to blame untill this mess finally comes out in the wash. That's the hard facts like it or not :(

Kenwyn Jones going to save money. Marshall will easily bring in £5m .

Cardiff under Tan need to reduce his debt. Its his club so his plans are to steady the ship , Slade will still achieve mid table and Tan gets more debt in.

The sooner we accept our club is no longer a challenging club the Bettr.

This is the reality

We all know that Marshall is settled and has not wanted to leave when other clubs have come sniffing previously. For me he is our consistently best player, part of the backbone of our team and should not be sold. I do wonder about his PL ambitions though and currently, he's probably not going to see that with City under the current manager anytime soon. I would be very disappointed if he was pressurised to go as we are not a club that has to sell and certainly not our best players. The focus should be on the signing of players who are going to get the crowds coming back. I also think that if he went, it would contribute to a further drop in ST renewals as a result of the club showing a lack of any ambition. He's a keeper worth keeping but as there are no football people at the executive level, as we've seen, anything is possible.

Yep because who would want to support there supposed team unless there promoted every season or winning league titles, if not then nobody should watch them, how the football fans view on today's game has changed

Becourse the club keep saying we are looking for promotion. Doesn't exactly harmonize with their actions. Have to stop at some point.

Howard considered "way outside" the Top 10 Premier League keepers on Talk Sport recently (and that include being behind several 'reserve' keepers, too! ;)

I'm getting to the stage now where I wouldn't blame any half decent City player for jumping ship. It is (to me at least) glaringly obvious that the things that need to be put in place to drive this club forward in the second half of this season are simply not going to occur!

I think it will be a mistake to sell David Marshal, but he would receive my very best wished for his loyalty and for what he has done for this club! :ayatollah: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Can't blame him if he does go to a Premiership club.

He must have ambition to play there once again and with the way we are going
it's not going to be with us that is for sure.

Vincent Tan will bite the hand off anyone offering him £5million.

When you see what some u proven championship strikers go for these days £5m for a top goalkeeper is a steal. I've said it before, goalkeepers are massively underpriced

Allen, I don't think anyone is surprised it's just the fact that we should try to keep our best players if possible.
Of course we all know that anyone in the squad is for sale without doubt.
