No guys he is not a footballer we are looking at but a Saudi lawyer that defend women's rights in the country.
The guy has had his licence revoked because one of his cases went public. The case was where he was defending a 19 year old girl who got raped by 7 men. In Saudi a female member of a family needs to be escorted by a male member of the family in public. She was seen with a none family member male in public. This resulted in these 7 men abducting her, taking her to a remote place and raping her. For the record the none family male member got severly beaten up.
The 7 men got 5 years in prison. Their defence was that as she was not with a male member of the family in public she was already defiled so was easy meat. This I believe is not a teaching of the Koran but a twisted version of a small part of the book. The girl was sentenced to 90 lashes and a prison sentence. Her crime you might have guessed was being in public with a none male member.
Adbul Rahman appealed against her sentence to the higher court of Saudi after the local court increased her sentence to 200 lashes. Upon hearing her increase in punishment the girl went public to the media. The high courts response was to uphold the sentence and revoke Abdul Rahmans licence.
Now for me this whole affair is appauling and frightening. That is coming form someone who has lived in such a country. These are rare occasions though there and I found the local residents quite friendly people if you accepted them and made effort. For the more "extreme" individuals I just avoided.
Even though it saddens me to hear this going on in such a country I do question our right to judge them though. We are the first to jump on the bandwagon regarding foreigners living by our rules in our country. However this is Saudi Arabia and all the locals know the rules. It is simple taboo to be seen in public for a woman with a male from another family UNLESS that women is accompanied by a brother/father/uncle/husband.
Yes it is a horrific story with even more horrific results. Are we in a position to judge or should we let them sort out the lifestyle they want?

Let them live the lifestyle they want and ban any migration from muslim countries.

Why can't we judge?... This is just pure barbaric and medieval. Just another example of how twisted and fucked up the people in power are in this world. Just because it's a law doesn't make it right to repress women.

Not saying it is right.
Give you another reason why we should not judge. Britain does billions of £ of deals with Saudi Arabia every year.

It's not about judging how they have applied their law, it's about judging the law itself. Absolute sick twisted logic reinforced by a discriminative religion.

Yeah but I'll equally except that our country is run by criminals too. I'm judging as a human not a brit

saudi arabia is a medieval dump. if it wasn't for western technology finding a use for their oil it would just be a desert with a few bigoted, evil individuals, the sort who genuinely believe that laws such as the ones you outline, are morally just.
if you had such evil, twisted rules in this country, i doubt they would be followed. its hugely disrespectful to the women and other persecuted groups that live there to say that they know the rules and so should face up to the consequences. where do you draw the line? were the nazis really evil? after all, the jews and all political opponents knew the rules and it was taboo to be a socialist etc etc. very dangerous talk.

One of the reasons why at times you do understand why the west is hated.
Absolute scums bags that hold the keys the the oil reserves so we bow down to them. Even in the face of them killing normal people for selling booze.
We give it the big one about the uk being a shining light of good morals. When we turn a blind eye when it suits us. The flag over downing street was flown at half mast for the death of king abdullah. But to think all politicans again give it the big one about womens rights, gay rights etc etc
We created this mess in the middle east in 1918. And we have done some detesible things since.
The saudi royal family is just a group of greedy mongrels that took their chance centuries ago. Since, they have reproduced like stray cats.
The oil is running out. Shame that the rich will diversify where the money is now. Leaving the civilians without a productive country in the future.
For me we can judge as people. The actions of our government are not always done in my name.
Weve done a lot worse than the saudis over the course of the last century.
