Bumped into chris price tonight a legend of the old city days as those of you who knew him can verify. Sat feeding his new born and chilled out. We were talking about the old days and the chelsea match at ninian park 1983 came up. Anyone got any memories of that day.

I was with Chris when 17 of us bumped into 25 United lads in Manchester when we had Oldham away

Yes I remember it well. Plenty of small rows before the game and Ickys mob came on the corner of bob bank and we're game as f**k but they got hammered . They also took over the grandstand and tried to get into the Bob bank at the canton end. After the game we got annihilated from outside the ground all the way down Tudor road to town !!! It was the biggest and maddest mob that ever came to Cardiff bar Utd in 75. B troop made one last stand by doc Graham's . Chelsea filled Tudor road and were tooled up chanting WarWarWar!!!! P Baker RIP was stabbed in the head and we were battered black and blue. Quite a few Chelsea were wearing bloodied bandages on their heads lol. Fair play they were a different class. Me and Dai H have always reckoned their were other London lads with them . Nearly all of them were lads! Forget all that has been written we got trashed. Looking back it was one of the maddest football days I ever seen

Remember the day well, I don't quite see it as Cardiff Yid sees it, but it's all about opinions. Chased them everywhere before the game outside the Coldstream and towards the Castle, roughly 50/60 on each side. After the game as soon as we came out of the Bob Bank, again fairly equal numbers,we ran them towards the Ninian pub. They regrouped and were then joined by what seemed like about a thousand others who'd now come out of the ground. They basically ran us the length of Tudor Rd to the Central/General, without doubt the best mob to have ever come to Cardiff.

My mates mother got hit on the head by a housebrick thrown by one of the scumbags.

I was 16 so fit as fcuk, never ran so hard in my life from Ninian Park to town. They came out the side streets, they were everywhere. We were 3-0 up with about 20 to go and they came back to 3-3 if i remember (so is not a new phenomenon). I was in the bob bank when they attacked it and the copper pulled the gates, it was madness.
My group were attacked by a little mob from Ely, too well dressed apparently....Never saw so many up for it, game changer for me, didn't fancy that life and went to college.

Chelsea always brought huge numbers , they ran city everywhere on previous occasions .Saw a clip on the internet from 83 when they played the jacks and they brought hardly any, yet they bring 6 thousand to us.

A lot of respect for Chris
That Chelsea game is worth a book on its own, City held their own that day and Chelsea were at their best all their main faces turned out that day, but so did City's .

Chelsea didn't do quite so well when we went to their place in October 1976, around 3000 city fans turned up that day and ran them ragged before the match. Their mob came onto the open terrace just before kick off, bouncing across the terrace and we stood, never budged, they made a half arsed effort and then plod ushered them out. Their brand new scoreboard got trashed that day as did two of their main pubs. They were really pissed off and they vowed revenge when they came to ours later that season, that day in October 76 started a rivalry off the pitch that has lasted years.

The oct 1980 night game was on a Friday. Can't remember why. I was a young lad of 17 and about 20 mins after the game in a back street off Tudor road we bumped into about 60 Chelsea blokes. Sheepskins and flight jackets in abundance. It kicked off and I remember acting like billy big bollocks till I turned around expecting a big mob behind me only to see most of our lot disappearing into the darkness!!! All I remember was a big cockney swinging me around booting me up the Arse, whilst hearing the harrowing words"stab the Welsh bastards". I sure was relieved to see the plod piling out of the old Sherpa vans, lol..

I was on Sloper Road after the game and decided to stay there and waited for the crowd to move on. A lot of our fans were gathered on the football pitch doing the same I presumed. Next thing I saw a handful of Chelsea rush this lot on the pitch. They must have been outnumbered 100 to 5 easily. They disappeared into the crowd and about 2 minutes later reappeared walking towards the Ninian Pub giving it the big one. Pretty sure I saw the police there between them and the 100 odd Cardiff fans.

By the Bob Bank yes, but not in the City Centre.
Even Chelsea admitted down the sides street on Tudor road we gave as good as we got.
In St Mary Street, 200 Cardiff held their own before the game, Chelsea had the better outside the ground after.
I was at Man United as well.

I know we got done in many places, I was with little Collin etc etc and yes we got done at places, but Cardiff did them them in some areas as well, even Chelsea will admit that. They were better organised than us.

Wow what a mad mad day that was. Got on the Train at Bristol Parkway and as we passed through Newport the station was lined full of Police apparently Chelsea had stopped there and caused mayhem. Didn't see much more and got to the Ninian Pub where everyone decided not to go in block A Grandstand as it was said Chelsea were planning on taking the Bob Bank.
We was in the Bob when several including my mate from London decided to go back out and go in the Grandstand as it was clear they wasn't going to take the Bob. No one could of done that in my opinion.
But those Lads in the Grandstand including my mate got well and truly battered. We was three up when the Chelsea Lads in the Canton and Grandstand decided to pour out in an attempt to get in the the Bob but the City poured out. I was right up the front and just as the two mobs was about to meet a copper shut the gates by where the supporters shop ended up.
By the time we poured back in they had a penalty and it finished 3-3. Again we poured out with the Chelsea Mob from the Canton and Grandstand and Cardiff backed them all the way back to the Ninian Pub.
I saw my mate from London and he was a bloodied mess but we decided we better make a run to the station as we had to get on the Paddington train.
The train was just about to leave so the conductor held the door open as we dived in. What we saw when the door slammed shut behind us still has me sweating even today the whole train was packed with Chelsea and some faces that I recognised from our run in after the game along with about three Cardiff fans who was looking at the floor. That was the longest 35 minutes of my life to get to Parkway and I was convinced we would be thrown out in the tunnel but respect to the Chelsea lads who could of taken advantage but they didn't. When I got off the train at Parkway and the train pulled out I was jumping up and down with delight coz I was still alive

. But I never saw my mate again from London and wondered what happened to him, rumour had it they done him on the train again good and proper but I never found out.
Many firms have come to Cardiff many good firms but nothing ever compared to Chelsea that day. The numbers the Lads they had were IMO the best that ever came to Cardiff. And to top it off in the Echo there was a picture on the front page of City fans after the game pushing Chelsea back and I was in that photo

.

That's the pub I was on about Downtown aka Royal Hotel, I was there Cardiff steamed in.
I do agree Chelsea done us outside Bob Bank and by Ninian Pib after the game
Mon Dec 28, 2015 8:04 pm
Watch the video Chelsea on 3 sides of ground. Cardiff got battered and ran from the Ninian to train station like I said. Jimmy we know what went on. B troop were the only ones having a go on Tudor road. It was a full on riot situation with Chelsea resembling some medieval army. They never always had it their way with us but that day it was complete humiliation

With 10 mins to go about 300 Chelsea poured down from the main Grandstand in to the enclosures and then joined more to try and take the Bob Bank, thankfully they never actually got on there.

All their lads from Walthamstow came down that day, they were spurs main mob back then. They surprised us at the end of the match when they steamed into us as we came out of the grange end, a proper full on brawl ensued, they came off second best eventually but they were well up for it.
