" Cardiff still after Anthony Stokes? "

Sun Dec 27, 2015 1:10 pm

Celtic recently handed out a strong punishment to striker Anthony Stokes after a Twitter outburst, with the forward suspended by the club for two weeks.

Sunday 27th Dec 2015

The Irishman tweeted after travelling with the squad to the game in Inverness to then be left out of the team for the game.

His foul-mouthed tweet was not a smart idea but was born out of understandable frustration.
Stokes has essentially been completely frozen out by Celtic manager Ronny Deila and has not played for the club since the 3-1 win against Dundee United in August.

Now Stokes is being linked with three Championship teams ahead of the January transfer window.

The Scotsman is reporting that Bolton Wanderers, managed by his former boss Neil Lennon, were favourites to sign the player - until they were handed a transfer embargo this week.

With that in mind Cardiff City, Leeds United and Preston North End are seemingly the frontrunners.

Cardiff currently have former Celtic striker Tony Watt on loan from Charlton, a deal that expires in mid-January.

Leeds United are known to be after a new striker. Kyle Lafferty has been mentioned but Leedsmay move on to somebody like Stokes should a move for the Norwich striker fail to materialise.

Washington is banging goals in league 1 another 2 yesterday but would he be another Doyle?

No Washington has got pace and is younger would be better than Doyle.

Tough one to call this! A lot say he is still learning which is always a good sign! But would it be too much of a gamble again as the step up from league 1 to champ is a big jump!

I think Washington have the attributes to be a good championship striker. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Stokes is a good player and if suggestions are right and he is available for 750k I think that could end up being a bargain however I do question he has the finishing ability to score goals consistently in the championship although who knows there is no reason why he cant score goals in the championship. This Connor Washington lad from Peterborough is overpriced at £1 million if we could get him for half that price he could be worth the gamble but he is not worth £1 million
