FAILURE TO SCORE GOALS

Sun Dec 27, 2015 10:38 am

Failure to score goals is not Cardiff City's biggest problem.

I see many posts saying we need a goal scoring midfielder or a new striker who can find the net but the facts are that City have only failed to score twice at home and five times away.

Out of the two games at home where we didn't find the net, we drew one of those games, against Bristol City and lost the other to Hull.

Away from home we picked up points on two occasions of the five where we fired blanks, at Preston and Ipswich and lost against Birmingham, Derby and Leeds.

We are creating chances now, where back in October and November that was a major concern, I think City are close to getting to where the manager is trying to take us, in recent games fine margins have cost us, whether it has been a defensive mistake or a striker close to finishing a chance, I still think we will find ourselves in a play off position between now and the end of the season, I just hope that we finish in there come May.

Depends who dinosaur brings in January.

Also best plan would be for Tan to bring in manager and put Slade upstairs .

We won't get there with Slade incharge

Mike, many fans keep saying it but when you think he is going to fail this season, Slade has managed to get a result.

It is in the games where we expect that we find ourselves dismayed.

We are still very much in with a great shout of the play offs despite two defeats on the bounce, that cannot be luck but by way of results before the Birmingham loss.

Slade is close to the play offs and be honest did anyone really expect that at the start of the season, despite the crowing from club officials ?

I certainly didn't, so with respect to the manager doing better than I suggested or thought he would, I am cutting him some slack and giving him a chance to maybe continue to prove many of us wrong.

Tan is not going to change the manager, whether we thought at the start of the campaign he was not the man to lead us forward, but at least fans should concede we are doing better than many expected.

Agree with everything there Carl.

The fans should realise that slade is staying (quite rightly too) so just support him because that's what supporters are meant to do.

The lack of movement by the Jones/Mason combo was a factor , not making runs and no pace was evident and the chasing down when we didn't have the ball was woeful , the introduction of Watt has had an impact , just need to replace can't be arsed Jones now

Might be a lot of truth to that. Only, we lost to Milton Dons.. :?

I agree with the post and are not too far away from having a decent side as long as we can keep watt. Jones I couldn't care less about as for the money he is on he needs to be scoring at least 15 goals a season and I doubt this will happen. I would defo look to purchase another target man and offload Jones in Jan.

I would then tweak centre mid and bring back dickachoi for gunnarssoon. There hasn't been that much change defensively so I would look further forward for why we are now conceding. Dickachoi can hold the midfield better and has a superior range of passing to gunner who has a good game every now and then but too many times the game goes on around him. Bring noone back for Amoebi and we don't look too bad without major signings. What we desperately need is back to back wins something we have never seemed to achieve under slade.

I have quite enjoyed watching us for periods this season and we are not far away from being a good side. Some of the top six (hull, Burnley Boro) we played well against or beat. There is nothing in this league and 3 wins on the bounce and we are away.

Hope I'm wrong but I just can't see us staying in the top 6,we are too inconsistent. We might break in there at some point but then we lose a game and we drop down a few places and find it difficult to get a top 6 place back. Would love to be wrong but can't see it. I didn't get as upset losing yesterday as I would have in previous seasons, cos I just don't have the same expectations as previous seasons. Drove back to Cardiff on my own yesterday and quite enjoyed listening to rock party music on Absolute Radio.

Can we stop saying we are close to the top six, we are not. We are close to fifth and sixth but not third and fourth.

We are fourth out of a group 6 whose fans probably believe they are in the hunt for the last two spots.

We are already 11 points behind fourth. With next to no rotation in the team we'd be so knackered by the time we hit the playoffs we'd be overpowered by a much fresher team like the last time we got there.

You only have to score one more goal than the opposition to get three points, stop them scoring one negates us having to score to....

What is costing us is Jones and Ameobi we look like 9 men with them in the side get rid of em both and get another pacy striker or Saadi with Watt and a pacey winger.

I would not get rid of Jones but Ameobi I do agree with.
