Cardiff City have made a bid to sign Bolton Wanderers starlet Josh Vela, HITC Sport understands.
The 22-year-old midfielder has come through the youth ranks at the Lancashire club and has made over 50 first-team appearances.
Aged 17, Liverpool tried to sign him and he has continued to attract interest from a number of Premier League and Championship clubs.
The likes of West Ham United, Leicester City, Burnley and Ipswich Town have all been following him closely but now Cardiff are hoping to win the race for his signature.
HITC Sport understands The Bluebirds have made an initial offer of around £500,000 and they are hoping that Bolton's precarious financial situation will see them accept.

My mates a Bolton fan and doesn't expect this to happen with some big clubs sniffing, highly rated. If this is true the clowns ego think we are asset stripping can finally lay low. Is Tan taking the gamble?

Boltons ground is literally 2 mins from where I live so I get to photograph their games quite a bit. Josh Vela is a snip at £500k and, in my opinion, would be a good signing.
I personally would like to see Zach Clough being signed. He has been injured this year but last season was scoring for fun - and he is a superb Free Kick taker. I do know that some clubs were valuing him in the region of £3-5m and I know one Premiership scout said he would be worth £10m in around 4 years time. So if we could pick him up cheaply I would be well happy!

Cardiff arrow in to sign this rival player 0

Bolton are one of the teams that, on Thursday, were placed on a transfer embargo after breaching the Football League Financial Fair Play limits permitting a £6m loss in a financial year. Now Josh Vela, one of their more viable assets is a target for Championship rivals Cardiff, according to a report in the Mail Online.
The penalties for failing FFP limitations, severely restrict what a club can do regarding signing new players. Whilst they are not victims of a total ban on signings, they can only sign players if they have a squad of less than 24 ‘established players’, any signing cannot cost more than £600,000 per annum and if they have 24 players then there is a case of ‘one in, one out’ – the incoming player must be 75% or less than the salary cost of the player leaving or the £600,000 per annum cost, whichever is the lowest. What they cannnot do is pay an actual transfer fee.
Facing this prospect, it is likely that Bolton will need to sell some of their more viable assets and this is likely to include Josh Vela and also others such as Mark Davies and Zach Clough. With regard to Vela, the Mail Online report that Cardiff have jumped ahead of other teams and lodged a £450,000 bid for the youngster’s services. Vela has risen through the youth ranks at the Reebok Stadium and is a player who attracted interest from Liverpool as a teenager, impressing the Reds further when he faced them in last season’s FA Cup.
Vela has made 12 appearances for Bolton this season (one as a substitute), totalling 997 minutes and has scored one goal. He is a tidy passer of the ball (78.3 accuracy) and at quite a high volume of attempts (40.7 per typical 90 minutes.) With Bolton being in the state that they find themselves, what with the transer embargo and also a potential winding up order from HMRC over an alleged unpaid tax bill, Cardiff have leapt ahead of teams like Leicester City, Burnley and ipswich Town and the Bluebirds hope to sign him next weekend when the January transfer window opens.

What's Mark Davies been like for them? Was excellent a few seasons back but seems to have gone off the radar a bit as far as I know.
