Kenwyne Jones is focused for Cardiff City despite ongoing contract saga, says Scott Young

Jones has five Championship goals so far this campaign, his latest being a brace in the recent home win over Sheffield Wednesday
Kenwyne Jones ’ on-going contract saga at Cardiff City is not causing the Bluebirds’ star to lose his focus on the pitch.
That is the view of Russell Slade’s assistant manager at the club, Scott Young.
The 31-year-old marksman’s contract with the Bluebirds is up next summer and Jones is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.
The club have put one on the table for Jones, but it calls for a reduction in salary of the Bluebirds highest-paid player, with the striker currently earning a basic wage of £35,000 a week.
There are growing concerns within the club that Jones will not sign, meaning he could talk to other clubs in next month’s transfer window and could leave the club he joined from Stoke in January 2014 for nothing at the end of the season.
Jones has five Championship goals so far this campaign, his latest being a brace in the recent home win over Sheffield Wednesday.
But against Birmingham last time out, Jones put in a subdued performance as Slade’s Bluebirds lost out thanks to a controversial penalty for the home side.
Many are now questioning Jones’ commitment to the Cardiff cause as his current deal runs down, but Young said the striker was a true pro and focused on Cardiff’s play-off push.
“I don’t think any of that (the contract negotiations) is playing on his mind,” said Young. “He scored two goals the game before last. Kenwyne has been around the block long enough just to treat every game as it comes and be as professional as he can be.”
Jones should again lead the line as the Bluebirds travel to Milton Keynes on Boxing Day.
He will partner on-loan striker Tony Watt a player who the Bluebirds are keen to tie down to a permanent deal in January too.
Cardiff are looking for another striker in January as well, further fuelling speculation that Jones’ days at the club are numbered.

Christ!
If the way he played at Birmingham was him being "focussed", I'd hate to see him playing when he's "unfoccused".
Doesn't do enough for me though he has all the attributes to be a real handful when he wants to be.
Problem is he doesn't want to be often enough.
Massive drain on wages - if he doesn't want to sign the new contract move him on.

The only thing he is focused on is maintaining his very high wages ...... not committed to Cardiff at all , just waiting for offers
He is just ripping off the club and fans with his lack lustre and can't be arsed performances while taking the money

Bollocks is he focused. The only reason Young has come out and said that is to protect the squad harmony and calm the media down. Jones clearly isn't fussed. Being paid too much and doesn't give a shit.

He never chases balls down when they have the ball and he does "f**k all going forward" when we have the ball.
Do you ever see him busting a gut to get into the box to get on the end of a cross? If he happens to be in the box then great but he just lopes slowly towards the box usually getting there just as the ball is being cleared.
He should be ripping this division apart - the fact that he isn't is down to sheer laziness on his part.
Great defender at corners and free kicks though!

Spot on he is a good player when he wants to be and that's just not good enough.

you make some good points but i think its abit extreme for fans wanting him to go because he doesn't contribute to our expectation's and the fact that we have only 2 goalscoring strikers aswell so it would be criminal to let our main goalscorer go for absolute nothing

Not sticking up for him here as he sometimes infuriates me but did anyone else notice when Brum were awarded a penalty and quite a few of their players were surrounding the ref to send off Connolly it was Kenwynne who was ushering them away from around the ref. So if he wasn't concerned about City I wouldn't have thought he would be bothered if Connolly had been sent off. Results wouldn't matter to him if he was looking to bail out in January.
