Could Be Out For 4 Months

22nd Dec 2015

Coventry City loan defender Ben Turner is set to have an operation on his damaged left ankle that could rule him out for up to four months.

The 27-year-old Cardiff City defender will see a specialist on Wednesday to discuss his recovery plan after suffering ligament damage playing for the Sky Blues on Saturday.

It is understood Turner’s time with his former club would have been cut short anyway because his parent club were on the verge of recalling the centre-half early after fellow defender Sean Morrison has been ruled out with a knee injury for up to six weeks.

“It’s not good news for Ben or us,” confirmed Coventry boss Tony Mowbray.

“It looks as if he’s going to need another operation, this time on his left ankle, so he’s gone back to Cardiff to come under their supervision.

“Obviously our thoughts are with Ben who won’t be in a good place at the moment but as I said to him, he’s been through it with his other ankle and he’s made of the right stuff and I am sure he’ll come out the other end stronger.

“That’s the positive for him and hopefully he’ll be back before the end of the season , back on the pitch playing football.

“It’s a huge blow for the lad, first and foremost, and then for us as well. He was just what we needed, very dominannt and physical who could deal with all the big guys in this league and I thank Cardiff and Russell Slade for allowing him to come to us to get game time to get back into their side.

“It’s just disappointing for everyone the way it has turned out. I have spoken to Russell who is philosophical about it, I suppose. There’s nothing we can do about it now.

“It was just one of those things and if it was going to happen it was going to happen. He was just heading the ball back to the keeper and landed awkwardly but hopefully when he comes back he’ll have two pretty solid ankles moving forward to push on with.”

I don't think we will see him in a city shirt again.

Such a shame, this last run of injuries could really ruine his career

Such a shame.

An excellent, strong, commanding centre half on his day.

His goal against Liverpool in the Carling Cup Final was one of the most joyous moments for me in over 40 years of supporting the City. Even Bellamy was cheering even though he was playing for them!

Hope he makes a full recovery.
