If true i'm happy with this, jones needs to be moved on and another striker brought in on half his wages and a better attitude/workrate.

Cardiff City have a deal in place already to sign on-loan striker Tony Watt, but the Bluebirds are starting to become resigned to losing star frontman Kenwyne Jones.

Watt, has proved a big hit since arriving on-loan from Charlton last month, firing in two goals in five games so far, his loan spell is up on January 16 and the Bluebirds will then look to sign him permanently via a deal already struck with the Addicks.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £1m, but we understand there are still some negotiations to be done over some aspects of the expected move. Watt had been a hit at Charlton, but after sending him out on loan they are ready to sell him in January with Cardiff very much in the driving seat.

Watt has struck up a good partnership up-front for Cardiff with main striker Kenwyne Jones, but the 31-year-old’s contract is up in the Welsh capital in the summer.

WalesOnline revealed recently that boss Russell Slade is keen to hold onto Jones and there will be a new deal offered, but it will see the striker asked to take a pay cut. The Trinidad & Tobago international is the highest paid player at the club, believed to be on a basic salary of £35,000 a week.

There is hope Jones will put pen to paper at Cardiff, but we understand the early signs are not good although sources at the club say they are yet to receive any enquiries from other clubs about Jones so far.

If the striker does not ink a new contract he would be free to talk to new clubs in January. Even if he does not sign up, Cardiff are hoping Jones will stay until the end of his contract in the summer to help the Bluebirds keep their Championship play-off push on track.

But it looks like Cardiff are already making contingency plans should Jones move next month. They recently made a bid in the region of 1m euros for Heracles Almelo striker Wout Weghorst, but the Dutch club want four times that amount for the 23-year-old and the Bluebirds have been put off by the price-tag.

And Cardiff are also in negotiations with two other strikers about potentially moving to the Welsh capital next month. It is believed one of them will be in addition to Watt, a move which casts further doubt over Jones’ long-term future with the Bluebirds.

I didn't know Jones had been playing! When was that?

Get some strikers in and let him rot with 12 yr olds, he won't get 35k from anywhere else, unless big Sam is desperate!

Bye kenwyne, not enough effort.... :ayatollah:

Really hope he goes.

Less pay will equal even less effort (if that's possible) :ayatollah:

Praised one week, tore apart the next week fans flip back and forth for fun. He's a decent striker, his partnership works with watt but one thing that's always been his Achilles heel is games when he can't be bothered, while I accept the type of player he is and don't expect him to run about closing everything down you can't be on 35k and decide you just don't fancy it today.

Not irreplaceable but still a decent striker :bluebird:

Totally agree, I'd love him to stay personally.

If Kenwynne could be bothered every game he wouldn't be playing in the championship.

Give me a hit and miss Kenwynne over Mr Run around like a headless chicken and no talent Revell any day of the week.

Bothroyd used to get the same shit off our fans and he was the best all around striker in a City shirt for decades.

Spot on Polo, thats his problem exactly like Bothroyd, quality, but not consistant at all.

He is 31 and never looks in love with the game its just his job. He has been in the championship for 49 games and scored 13 goals (Wiki :? ) thats not tearing it a new arse. He never looks for his partner its not is game.

Let him go , if we can tear up his contract and let him move at no cost to us, lets do it. We still have the king of lazy waiting on the bench, but i believe he will score goals, especially with an athletic partner.

I don't think he's going to be as much in demand as he thinks, although he might be suited to the MLS. I'd like him to stay till the end of the season though as he has a good habit of putting away vital goals when he has done nothing else all game :bluebird:

Agree with you. Praised one week sure, but if he's got that quality we should be praising him every week. A little inconsistency is fine and to be expected in an athletic, competitive sport - you will have bad days. What we see from KJ however is downright laziness. You could even see the frustration Watt's face when he was flicking some superb balls into the box after beating a man or two, and KJ wouldn't move more than 2-3 yards.

If other players don't know what to expect of him on the day, they won't be at their best either. Better we have someone consistently strong, and hard-working, rather than a 'maybe'.

I'd like to see Saadi/Macheda paired with Watt, perhaps even Doyle or ALF.

kenwyne jones should be ripping up the championship with the attributes he has. instead he is now just a good to very good championship striker who is vastly overpaid.

the irony is that once he leaves he may well start to pull out his finger when he realises his pay cheque will not be anywhere near what he is getting here if he carries on putting in effort when he feels like it.

Agreed

Realistically nobody is going to pay his current wages and a fee. The best for both parties is for Kenwynne to stay until the end of the season, he'll be playing to impress future clubs and, so far, his partnership with Watt has made us look reasonably potent for the first time in years. If they really kick on and get us into the play-offs or beyond then the money we spend in wages will look a pretty good investment. 4 goals in last 4 games between them is a pretty good start.

It would be nice to have a striker with more of an appetite coupled with ability but you're talking £3m+ for that sort of player and that's not the market we shop in anymore.

if we have ambitions of a playoff place, kenwyn needs to stay.

or at the very least replaced by someone who can go a good job here. in an ideal world, getting Bamfords loan to Palace terminated so he can come here would be brilliant.
