Cardiff City recall Alex Revell from Wigan loan spell 'with the player’s personal circumstances taken into account'

21/12/15

BY ALEX BYWATER

Revell scored just once in his time with the Latics and has now returned to the Welsh capital.

Cardiff City have recalled striker Alex Revell from his loan spell at League One side Wigan.

Former Rotherham striker Revell failed to cut the mustard with the Bluebirds following his surprise move to the Welsh capital last January and joined the Latics on loan for three months.

Russell Slade said Revell's loan switch was designed to boost his confidence in front of goal.

But the 32-year-old made just a handful of appearances in his time at the DW Stadium, scoring just once, and has now returned to Cardiff ahead of the Christmas fixtures.

Slade has been keen to pair Kenwyne Jones and loan signing Tony Watt as his first choice pair up front in recent games with Revell now adding to the back-up options in attack.

It's understood part of Cardiff's decision to recall Revell is for personal, rather than footballing reasons.

That was confirmed in Cardiff's statement which read: “Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Alex Revell has been recalled from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

“The striker’s three month loan spell at DW Stadium was intended to run until January 23, 2016. However, Alex will return to Cardiff earlier than intended with the player’s personal circumstances having been taken into account.”

We'll see. If he goes straight into our match day squad then it'll show serious lack of ambition on our part. He's not good enough.

We couldn't score for shit when he was involved.

Great work rate but is he good enough for the Championship? And especially now we've got Tony Watt :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Cardiff City confirm they made bid for Dutch striker Wout Weghorst but Bluebirds move unlikely to happen

Revell is not good enough for league 1 let alone the championship. Sell him or give him away in January.

Since when has Slade ever worried about ambition

Completely underwelmed by this. I'm very pleased about th signing of Watt but I feel one positive maybe clouded by abit if a negative. No offence to Revell he is a great league 1 player and would probably make it big in league 1 as he gets older but I'm not so sure in the championship. I hope he proves me completely wrong and scores lots of goals for us but if he goes into the 1st team squad it will demonstrate a lack of ambition as another posted above. I was glad when he went out on loan as he needs game time but he is about our number 3 striker along with macheda.

A great legaue 1 player? Hed been dropped by Wigan recently.

Worst striker to play for City since Jason Byrne.

Could it be? And I'm only guessing! That he's looking to try revell with watt before January transfer window to see if his work ethic and flick ons etc can work with a good worker off the ball like watt. I'm no fan of revell in ability terms but a few players say he's good to play alongside? ? Just a thought :old:

He's not shit, we've paid more for strikers who have performed worse. Sonetimes two strikers work brilliantly together that don't work as well with others. Worth a try.

No it's not. He's rubbish and not even league one standard, he's been dropped from the Wigan team so Russell has called him back by the looks he can spout personal reasons all he wants I don't believe that for a second. You think he's worth putting in a team trying to push for a play off place? We couldn't score for shit the last time he graced our side.

We couldn't score for shit with le fondre up front and he is supposed to be brilliant at this level!
We scored a fair few with frazier campbell up front and how's he doing now?
All I'm saying is different teams and set ups suit different players. I believe Saadi and Watt up front is the future, but what is the harm in trying out Revell with Watt. We all know Jones aint up to much at the moment.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY RECALL STRIKER FROM LOAN SPELL '

Mon Dec 21, 2015 8:26 pm

Why would Jones be going now ? He is on a Bosman at the end of the season and we'll probably stump up close to a million pound in wages in that time, unless hi agent has found him a decent deal somewhere else and we're going to let him go to save the million.

My guess is they have found a permanent deal for Revell

It says he is returning for personal reasons. With Saadi supposedly fit in the New Year I can't see him getting a look in.

Wout Weghorst plays for HERACLES = Age 23 : 14 goals in 43 games.

Of all the combinations of strike partnerships we could roll out, the top 5 wouldn't include him in my book.

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY RECALL STRIKER FROM LOAN SPELL '

Revel is not at the level we want - neither was Doyle.

Asaadi and Watt would be my preferred option. Mason also not cutting it either. Jones must be on his way obviously

Re: ' CARDIFF CITY RECALL STRIKER FROM LOAN SPELL '

Getting the right striker is a hit and miss thing in any of the leagues.

Doyle deserved the chance as he basically carried Chesterfield to the play off positions. However there were doubts when he came to us if he had the ability to step up. Come the end of last season I thought he had proved himself enough to be given the chance this season. I'm not sure what happened during the break but it seems to me we went into the new season with him losing his chance.

I felt Revell was brought in as a backup for Jones. In a way he has done a good job there proving he can be the target man. Unfortunately he has not shown the ability to be that dangerous with the ball at his feet unlike Jones who can bully his way into the area. His return to the club should be interesting now we have the likes of Watts here.

To be once the Jones/Watts partnership lose the ball that's it we find ourselves under attack. I just feel with Revell up there they will chase the ball a lot more giving the defence no time to build an attack. Revell/Watts up front and a bit of steel in the midfield will see us gain more possession and hopefully more attacks.....well I can hope can't I?

Revell couldnt even get in the Wigan starting line-up recently so why we would want him in a side that is striving for the play-offs in the championship I dont know.

You need more than just "running about" (usually like a headless chicken) at this level. Defenders at this level are good enough to play around him.

He cant hold the ball up because he is poor technically, he cant link the play and he is no good in front of goal. Im sorry but he offers nothing at this level.

Give me a hit and miss Kenwynne over that donkey any day of the week.

Great work ethic and attitude but not good enough and needs to be sold
